I haven't actually tried booking a fare on Expedia UK's site.. but they list cheaper fares versus the US site. Do they only accept UK credit cards or something ?

No. What matters (at least 4 years ago) seems to be a mailing address in the U.K. I used an U.S.-issued AX card with a Canadian billing address to buy AY, BA & IB tickets mailed to an U.K. address.
FWIW, price out the fare on AA.com too. Sometimes you get good fares there.
