I was shopping for a LAX-BOS r/t for a friend when Travelocity presented me with a very attractive fare on "a major airline". After clicking select, Travelocity informed me that the price would the fare was for a roundtrip with a connection in Milwaukee. I know only NW and YX have non-stop LAX-MKE flights, and the NW flight gets in too late to make any same-day BOS connection.
In fact, YX had only one legal connection in either direction, so I was able to predict exactly what flights Travelocity was opaquely offering. I ended up buying the fare and as expected, YX was the airline and the flights provided were the exact ones YX's site was offering at 150% of the price.
Needless to say I'm very happy with the outcome... and am wondering how often these fares pop up in your searches and how accurately you are able to predict the airlines/flights offered.
I have a feeling I just happened to be exceptionally lucky today!
