But check out today's statement -- oh the perils of corporate sponsorship!

Hotel Bonus Money is No Longer Valid
------------------------------------

We have been informed by Priceline that the hotel bonus money link, formerly available here, must be removed from BiddingForTravel.com as it was not intended for public posting.
We hope that our users respect our decision to comply with this request to ensure that BiddingForTravel.com will continue to operate and be available to help all who come here.

The link above will now take you to an ordinary Priceline Hotel bid screen.

So does anyone know the link for the double super secret $5 hotel discount?

Here (http://www.4priceline.com/) is a link for $10.

Guess I got my bid in just in time then. I bid late Tuesday night (June 11), only about 36 hours before you posted that. And I got the bonus money. (The hotel is nothing too special, a Radisson in south suburban Boston, listed as 3-star which I will continue to question until I see it, but with the bonus I only had to bid 30 bucks a night. Total with tax and fee $140 for 4 nights, still cheaper than most Motel 6. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif)

Nice $10 link, and a site I haven't visited before, but FYI, it is for air, not hotel.

I was able to use the rental car bonus ($3 per day up to $15) to get a car on Maui, for a July trip. Thanks for posting the bonus notice here.

I just used the bonus money today. I found in the biddingfortravel newsletter I just read this past week. Here is the link.

http://www.priceline.com/hotels/lang/en-us/itinerary.asp?free=84492296&refid=LSJo0p%2FARne44-k0I1kW3RIKCbTYBWEz3D9g

I've never posted a link before, so I am not sure if this will work or not.

Thanks for the link! I see it's only good through Sunday, however, so folks will have to act fact. (Sheryl apparently had one good through the end of the month -- she hasn't posted this one).

BTW, how did you come across this offer?

Reading your post more carefully, it sounds like you found the link in a newsletter written by Sheryl. Right?

Yes, I found it in her newsletter. This is the only one that I have seen recently. I never did see one good through the end of the month.

Does anyone still have the link for the rental car $? The other one is just for hotel.

Thanks

Glad I could find the link here after it had been removed from biddingfortravel.

Seems to be a bit of censorship on their part to remove a post containing legitimate information from a public forum...

That's Sheryl for you. Very useful board. Very difficult proprietor.

iahphx, since you copied Arrzee's post above from BiddingForTravel.com, I guess you mean that if you were in Sheryl's position that you wouldn't comply with Priceline's request then, right? Did it ever occur to you that Priceline could make it very difficult to maintain BiddingForTravel.com (which you seem to benefit from very often) if Sheryl refused to comply with a request like this? Obviously not, but then that's not surprising considering what you continue to post about Sheryl. You have absolutely no idea what is involved in running BiddingForTravel.com so why don't you just keep your negativity to yourself from now on? Your repeated flames of her on FlyerTalk were old a long time ago. Quit acting like a whiney child and grow up!

Calitalian said "Did it ever occur to you that Priceline could make it very difficult to maintain BiddingForTravel.com...if Sheryl refused to comply with a request like this?"

I think what you mean Calitalan, is that if Sheryl didn't do what Priceline told her, Priceline and/or AmazingBargains would kick her out of their affialiate program!

If Sheryl was really interested in being independant of Priceline, all she would have to do is move her site off-shore. Instead she is trying to walk the walk of being an independant site on how to beat Priceline, while at the same time she is receiving money (directly or indirectly) from Priceline.

All it takes to get out from under Priceline's censorship, is a little guts and some persistence. For an example of someone who has successtully defended themselves against corporate censorship online, go to http://www.xenu.net/

Personally, I enjoy IAHPHX's perspective on things, I hope he stays around.

OK, now I am curious. Just exactly what do you mean by the above quote? Are you personally directly or indirectly involved "in running BiddingForTravel.com" and/or do you have a financial interest in it? It seems nobody does and/or did but apparently some funds have changed hands by some who hinted (or refused to hint) they maintained an "arms length" relationship with P/L.

Please .. lets not turn this into another I love/hate Sheryl thread or another biddingfortravel is great/sucks thread.

I swear .. it's like a cult, isn't it? People either love it or hate it and when the dissenters inevitably pop up, the supporters feel that they have to defend it very vocally. You don't have to defend it .. it speaks for itself, as does the moderation style employed there, doesn't it? People either agree with the way its run or not.

Recent events have clearly shown that there's a relationship between biddingfortravel and priceline.

I think that's all been well-covered here in other threads on flyertalk.

CalItalian .. once again, thanks for posting the reminder for the car bonus money. I used the link for a rental car. Thank you again.

On the one hand, I feel sympathetic toward Sheryl: she seems to spend a great deal of time in her BFT job, and she constantly has to deal with customers who aren't always the brightest of bulbs.

On the other hand, BFT seems a bit overboard with its famous Rabbit Ears policy ("If you say anything we don't like on some other board, we won't let you post your bidding experience on BFT!"), and Sheryl did cross the line when holding out her hand for contributions while claiming, and eventually recanting, that she was "volunteering" her time.

The net result seems to be that the more experienced and knowledgeable participants have voted with their feet and, either by choice or by Sheryllian fiat, no longer contribute to BFT. This has increased the noise to signal ratio, so that a sorrowfully high percentage of posts are from clueless ones who either can't find or understand (the admittedly byzantine) FAQ, from Sheryl admonishing members of the latter group, or from moderators named BoopsieAnn writing content-free posts congratulating the unwashed on snaring a room.

I dunno CalItalian, but don't you see the complete absurdity of a "how to beat priceline board" being CONTROLLED by priceline?

Just more bad judgment, IMHO. Look at Randy Peterson. He does plenty of business with the airlines, but folks are allowed to post whatever the heck they want on his bulletin board. And he retains independent editorial control over his magazine and such. If Sheryl had some backbone, she would do the same with priceline. Obviously, priceline has figured out that her site is GOOD for them. And it's probably even better for them if folks TRUST Sheryl to be independent in her editorial content.

So what's next? Only putting in bidding tips that Priceline wants you to know? Where does it end? By censoring bonus money, you're basically saying you'll do whatever Massah Priceline wants.

Thanks for posting the $5 bonus money. I didn't catch it while it was still on Sheryl's bulletin board and my searches for anything similar didn't find anything till I came here. You saved me a few bucks yesterday, and that's what it's all about in the end http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif
