Travelocity is the latest recipient of a traffic ticket from the Transportation Department for failing to meet federal guidelines on the handling of air fare taxes and surcharges in Internet displays.
The DOT alleged that Travelocity's "Best Fare Finder" failed to include fuel surcharges when the user did a search without specifying a travel date. A footnote on the Web page indicated a fuel surcharge might apply to some flights, but the details didn't emerge until the user went to the booking page. The DOT said that was not good enough.

I read that, too. I've never had good luck with Travelocity so I don't use them anyways, but I use Orbitz.com, and they've taken a lot of anti-trust heat of late. Maybe everyone laying the blam should look within and evaluate internal problems first. All i'm looking for is the most user friendly site with the lowest fares, and Orbitz gives me that. Its not a difficult decision.

I do a lot of online booking and very rarely has orbitz offered me the best deals. Usually travelocity has the same deals without orbitz' surcharge. I also have had a lot of problem with orbitz - the fares they display have often been unavailable when I tried to book them.
