Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Any extra charges/ problems with Expedia?
Friends mentioned that they had various problems with sites like Expedia beacuse of nin availaibilyt of flights advertised, extra charges, getting e-tickets without FedEx charges, etc. Is this still a problem?
Anything to watch out for now?
What is a "nin"? You can't FedEx an e-ticket; why would you want to do that?
Anyway, I've never had any problems with Expedia.com, and that's what I usually book through.

I have never had "extra" charges that I didn't agree to up front.
I don't care about any of the "extra" charges, all I care about is the total cost. If the ticket costs $198 and they have a $2.00 processing fee for a total of $200 to me that is the exact same as offering a $2.00 ticket with a $150 fedex fee and a $48 Monday surcharge. As long as the total cost doesn't change, I don't care what it's made up of. Just let me know the total from point A to point B.
But back to the question, there have never been any surprises for me with any of the online agencies, they have been quite clear as to that the total will be.

actually I think Expedia does the best of all of the various places online that I have tried (and I think I have been to all of them).
Expedia usually shows the ENTIRE price (including taxes, surchages (fuel etc), delivery charges) much sooner than the competition. I have often found that they show the price sooner than the competition and used to think that they were $2-20 higher in air tickets then looked at the competition "hiding" some of those fees. I also only care about TOTAL to me at the end of the purchase.
Here is a hint--Use the little box on the left as you go about inputting your info (after you have selected flights) as you go thru the process of shopping/price comparing on Expedia and you will see all known charges (and if in hotels what is unknown and might be tacked on).
I am pasting a version from a sample flight search I just ran.... pretty clear to me. I have purchased tons and found no surprises.

I have used Expedia for the last two years to book all my personal travels. In over a dozen flights, I only had one problem...where we thought we had E-tickets, but weren't in the airline's reservations list. But, the Airline made a quick call to Expedia, they got us onto the flight though we had to pay an $80 change fee. Expedia refunded us that change fee within two weeks.
In fact I just booked two tickets to SFO with them last night...

Just don't have any problems with expedia. it has terrible customer service. you wait 30 minutes and they won't help you. no refunds even when the hotel won't give you a room

How can you write this without clarifying what exactly happened?
