This may seem funny to those of you from the younger generations, but I was wndering if online travel agencies such as Orbitz provide senior citizen discounts. Their fares are so good, I guess i'm a bit embarassed to ask them, so if anyone knows one way or another I'd appreciate the help.

Hello from another retired traveler. On Orbitz, unlike many other sites, they ask if any travelers are seniors and figure it in the price of the airline ticket. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

United offers several senior discount programs, but not online, you have to call for information.

Unless a travel agency or Orbitz has specially negotiated senior fares, they can't create senior fares out of nowhere. If a published fare has a senior discount, it will be available anywhere.

Expedia.com has an option to enter the number of senior passengers, and it will price a senior fare if one exists. You can see what the senior discount is by choosing "Airline Fare List" (under the "Flights" tab). Enter a city pair, then click "more rules" for your desired airline and fare code. You will see something like this:

NYCDFW-UA 1MAR02 *RULE DISPLAY* TARIFF 011 RULE 2320
-FARE BASIS USD TAX TOTAL PTC FT
TRA7NB1 R 184.19 13.81 198.00 ADT NL
TRA7NB1/INF50 R 92.09 6.91 99.00 INS NL
TRA7NB1/IN00 R 0.00 0.00 0.00 INF NL
TRA7NB1/SD10 R 165.77 12.43 178.20 SRC NL
TRA7NB1/SD10C R 165.77 12.43 178.20 CMP NL

The fourth line that says "TRA7NB1/SD10" means 10% discount for seniors. The base fare of $178.20 reflects the 10% discount off the regular $198 fare.
