I just wanted to let everyone know about some problems I experienced with Priceline hotels in England the past two weeks.
I stayed at three separate hotels that I had bid on and paid for through Priceline.
At the first hotel, I checked in with no problems. They did ask for an imprint of my credit card for incidentals.
On the morning of departure, there was a bill underneath my door. I presumed it was a receipt showing the charge to Priceline. Was, I ever mistaken!!! I was being billed for my room.
I went down to the desk and asked them about it. They informed me that Priceline had not paid them for the room. Funny, I HAD paid Priceline.
Luckily, I had my printout showing my confirmation number, date of bid and the fact that it was charged to my card. It took about 30 minutes but they eventually got it sorted out. I asked for a copy of the receipt, showing the credit just to make sure. When I checked my credit card statement online, sure enough the charge from the hotel was there but, it was reversed two days later. I'm still out about $13.00, however, due to the change in exchange rates.
On to the next hotel where, upon check in, I am told - Priceline hasn't paid us for your rooms. Again, I produce my printout and they take it and disappear for another half hour which, needless to say, really irritated me. When they came back, they did check me into the hotel. Two days later on checkout, they refused to give me a receipt. They flat out told me "I didn't need one". Well, I just refused to leave the front desk until they gave me a receipt that showed they had billed Priceline. I want some proof in case another charge shows up on my card.
Finally, our last night, out by Gatwick. Went to check in and.......Priceline hasn't paid the hotel. Another 30 minutes of precious pub time wasted!!!
I'm telling you this story to make sure that any of you that use Priceline, especially in England/Europe it appears, be sure and take printouts of your confirmation numbers.
I have never had this problem occur in the US and I have used Priceline quite a bit.
