Hi all, will be flying in to John Wayne airport this summer. How can I get from SNA to downtown LA? I see there are metrolink trains from santa ana to la, but is there any way from the airport to the train station?

thanks

The easiest way is probably with a car. Take the 55 to the 5 freeway straight to downtown. Alternately take the 405N to the 10 East to downtown.

To take the train you migth have to take a cab to the station, then hop on the train.

Do you have to fly into SNA? You are better off flying into BUR or ONT or even LAX to get to downtown LA.

The Metrolink stations are about 10 or 11 miles from SNA. AFAIK you would need to take a public bus (OCTA) to the station - there is service but I don't know if there is one-bus service or if a transfer involved (keep in mind that it may take an hour just to reach the Metrolink station.

Also to be remembered is that Metrolink is a commuter system, and the last train going up to DT Los Angeles leaves ~7:00pm. Weekend service may be even more limited - check the schedules!

Another alternate is SuperShuttle. They list a van service price of $55 first person, $9 each additional. Up to four people can share a SuperShuttle executive sedan for $84 (all prices before tip).

The SNA (OC Air) site has links to all of the above on its Ground Transportation page:

Best of luck in your journey!

My friend and I made the mistake of flying into SNA while going to LA. DON'T! Well, don't if you're not renting a car!

It was about $100 for a car service to Beverly Hills. Use LAX, and it will cost you $20 on Super Shuttle. Super Shuttle from SNA is about $75, and there are tons of stops along the way.

IMHO, it isn't worth the extra expense to fly to SNA unless you're doing the whole OC thing. Save yourself the headache and book through LAX. It may cost you a few more bucks on the air fare (but it really shouldn't), but it will save you transportation money and headaches when you get there.
