Asia - Suggestions for Chiang Rai

Aloha, everyone. Partner and a friend just booked a one day ticket to Chiang Rai to get out of BKK for a day on an upcoming trip next month(one can only take so much pleasure http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif Will arrive in CR a little before noon, and have to be back at the aiport to return @ 7pm. Plan our day, any ideas?

Chiang Rai, itself, does not have much to see or do. A few temples and fairly simple shopping.

You could rent a car and drive from the airport to Mai Sai and do a quick walk into Myanmar across the bridge (if it is open). You also could take a quick drive toward Fang to see a little bit of the native north.

Your schedule pretty much precludes doing much of anything.
