I just booked rooms in a couple of Asian cities (Hong Kong, Bangkok, Koh Phi Phi island) and I must say Asiatravel.com was fabulous. The rates were lower than most, and they offered many outstanding packages. And whenever i had a question, my email was answered in less than 10 minutes (which makes me wonder about the amount of free time the agents have) but always ready to serve and answer all questions and concerns. Could not ask for anything more!

Howzabout telling us a couple of those exact places and amazing rates... or are you just advertising?

I guess the rates are about average, but the service and packages put them heads above.
Hong Kong: Ramada Kowloon 3* 4 nights/2 person/air transfers/breakfast daily = $250
Bangkok: Baiyoke Suite 3* 6 nights/2person/air transfers/ breakfast daily/1/2 day tour/dinner cruise = $280
Koh Phi Phi: PP Charlie Beach Resort 3 nights/2 person/air transfers = $225

Prices are higher because I am travelling from Dec 10-25...
From all I could find, these seemed to average out close to most other websites. But their service has been spectacular. If there are better websites, since you are from the area, could you let me know for future trips? Thanks.

My experience with them trying to book a hotel in Taipei last month was not too great, to say the least.

They took so long to give me a quote that I had to arrange my booking through another company.

In their defense, they did, however, alert me about the waiting, by sending me e-mail every 2-3 days saying that they were waiting for the hotel to answer as well.

I gave them a week and that was all the patience I had. Finally, I used Priceline which worked much better and faster in my case.

And no, I DO NOT work for Priceline!

I used to live in Hong Kong and still travel to Asia quite a bit for pleasure. The rates you got are outrageous. Now, maybe you have a different level of expectations and comfort, but anytime you pay that much money in Asia you are getting ripped off. Booking via local agents or doing it yourself once you get there is almost always the better deal.

I just tried Priceline for BKK and they suggested $62 for a 2 star hotel when all the hotels I can book myself run between $20 and $50, for two people with breakfast. Neither Asiatravel nor Priceline seem to be really competitive on price. Maybe the service makes up for the mark up, but we all have a computer, I wonder how much value they really add...

I agree with the above poster about the rates. for example www.planetholiday.com (http://www.planetholiday.com) has almost always better rates than Asiatravel.

I've stayed at the Ramada Kowloon before and didn't really like it. Later I got the JW Marriott from Priceline for $75, and it's a very nice 5*.

Priceline may suggest whatever crap they please, never, I mean *NEVER* trust their suggested rates or "low chance of being accepted" warnings. Bottom line is that the Bangkok Shangri-La is one of the best deals around for $55. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/biggrin.gif

I posted a rather skeptical message in this thread last year, but as it happened I needed to get a hotel room in HK fast last week -- and ended up with asiatravel.com, who got me the Renaissance New World for US$78/night with all taxes included, and confirmed within hours of me mailing them. ^

By comparison, the cheapest rate I could find anywhere else (barring getting very lucky on Priceline) was $81 plus 15% taxes and service charges, and I would have had to wait two days for confirmation...! :td:
