Any suggestions for the best places to go? That is actually where I was planning to head but I had heard of crack downs of late. If the crackdowns are anything like the ones in Bangkok I am sure there will be tonnes of movies to choose from http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif Are there any new hotspots? G jpatokal Dec 13, 03, 11:11 pm I wasn't looking for DVDs when I was there last week, but there certainly seemed to be a number of shops and my favorite pirate CD place was in full swing like always http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/biggrin.gif cathaana Dec 16, 03, 8:49 am The night market in Chinatown. Let them play it for a minute though to check whether they work properly. But I also heard they cleaned up the place a bit. kawoh Dec 17, 03, 2:06 pm Try Petaling Street, Chinatown, in downtown KL, DVD's shouldn't cost you more than about RM7-8 each. Unless you want to get the DVD's with more features which are likely to be no more than RM10 each. This includes a DVD case. A few tips from what i've been told - 1) Ensure they are DVD quality, etc, so avoid the latest latest titles which could be cinema knock offs 2) Go to the stalls which have TV sets, in order to be able to let you try before you buy. 3) After you buy, always open up the case and ensure there is in fact a DVD there and it is the right one. kawoh Dec 17, 03, 2:13 pm If you want a good buy, avoid Sungei Wang and head to Petaling Street, you'll find them at least 20% cheaper there, you'll have a fun experience with plenty if interesting food and fruits and other 'knock offs' such as Mont Blanc pens (don't pay more than RM10-15 max), Wallets (don't pay more than RM20), IWC watches (don't pay more than RM80 for a steel watch and band). Petaling Street closes itself off and opens to stalls from about 2pm perhaps earlier, and runs late into the night (they start packing up 9pm-10pm). I suggest you change your money at Sungei Wang before hand for a better rate if using a money changer. You can catch a cab to Petaling Street from Sungei Wang (will cost you no more than RM3) or the nearest LRT I can think of is Masjid Jamek, and it's a 10 min walk to Petaling Street. If you'd like a fun experience and still get DVD's perhaps jump into a cab at 6pm from town and ask them to take you to a night market in Petaling Jaya, there you'll be able to mingle with locals, eat great food and get your DVD's even cheaper. When do you plan to be there gefsmith? gefsmith Dec 17, 03, 3:06 pm I will be arriving this Sat Night (late) and have all day Sunday to go crazy shopping. Thanks heaps for all your help guys you have been great. Is there anything happening on a Sunday that is a must see? G |
