Thanks for any suggestions! number_6 Nov 25, 03, 8:13 pm Search for tailor under Hong Kong and you will find lots of discussion, plus specific recommendations for Bangkok. I don't have any personal experience in BKK (seemed like cheap price and cheap quality to my eye, so I didn't buy) but have bought silk fabric there that was quite good. miles4all Dec 1, 03, 12:08 am Silk is indeed great in Thailand. Hand woven Thai fabic is really wonderful. Be careful that the fabrics Thai tailors use are imported and thus more expensive (duties). In HKG, SIN and KUL these are free of tax. For silk I work with Luckyman. You can preorder with him and he has good pricing (if you bargain). luckymanfashion@hotmail.com He also does suits.. gaia Dec 1, 03, 5:56 pm My tailor in Bangkok is Beethoven Suit at 698-698/1 Sukhumvit 26 RD Tel +66 2 258 6805 Fax +66 2 661 2651 Ask for Khun Thom, he's usually there in the afternoon and evening up until about 9:00pm. It might be best to call a day or two before you expect to arrive in Bangkok and make a definite time to see him. Khun Thom's English is very good - make sure that he is there each time you go as the others' English won't be good enough for you. I recommend that you get the best suit cloth he has, as the labour charges are minimal, and the difference between the cost of a suit made of cheap cloth and his best cloth is only a couple of hundred dollars. I prefer to have my suits made out of silk (Thai cloth) or cashmere (English or Italian cloth). Expect to pay twice as much for imported English or Italian cloth than you would for the local Thai cloth. A reasonable schedule would be: Day 1 Measure & choose cloth Day 3 First fitting Day 6 Second fitting Day 7 Collect The more time that you can give him between the first fitting and the second fitting the better (a week or more would be ideal) but this will of course depend on your schedule. Don't leave the second fitting and collection until the last day before you leave Thailand just in case there are some final adjustments to be made. Be very particular - they'll make a suit to the quality you'll accept. Accept nothing except the best workmanship. Japhydog Dec 2, 03, 9:42 am Thanks everyone for your recommendations! |
