Just wondering from any shopping experts if jewlery from Bali-based designer John Hardy is any cheaper in Bali than in the US.

Luxury shopping in Bali is very expensive (unlike the rest of Bali). At least that was the case for the top-end art work that I looked at (higher than NY prices). I guess there are enough rich honeymooners to support those prices. The moderate quality merchandise is much cheaper (different demographics). If John Hardy is on the A list you can expect prices to match.

--John Hardy is definitely on the "A list." --His work is prominently displayed at Neiman Marcus (Beverly Hills). Would be surprised if there was a big difference in price..He is not one who would be considered a local craftsman. Would definitely check NM prices before departing to John Hardy showroom/workshop on Bali (think he's in Ubud).

We were told that John Hardy's jewlery was only sold in Bali at his workshop/showroom which is not open to the general public. If you have an "in" it is quite far from the popular resorts. So unless you are buying a lot, it is not worth the drive.
