Key Question -
Would you spend the whole vacation in Bora Bora or split the time between Bora Bora and Moorea?
Background -
I have 8 days of vacation in December and I am going to French Polynesia. I know that I want to go to Bora Bora and I am aware it is slightly more expensive and that there is less activity on this island. My wife and I are just looking for a relaxing vacation. Well, I am beginning to think that if we travel half way around the world, we should visit at least one other island.
What would you do if you were in my position???
Thanks in advance.

Split the time.
We cruised the So. Pac. including both these islands. Enjoyed Moorea slightly more.
To bad you don't have more time. There are cruise that leave the area and visit many islands.
We found that the things to do were quite limited, beyond the obvious...water sports and lounging. There is plenty of beauty, fun people to meet and food to experience. It is all quite expensive. Take lots of sun screen, a big hat and a large budget.

It depends upon personal preference, obviously of you two. BB for that long can get boring for many people. I would also not want to miss Moorea, it is a wonderful island.

for some good opinions on where to go. We stayed in Bora Bora and Huahine, and loved them both for different reasons.

Ia Ora Na, Brian...
I'm just going to organise my fourth trip to French Polynesia (where my sweetie lives) and as for the previous times, I will not definitely go to Bora Bora then I suggest you to spend most of your time in Moorea, avoiding Tahiti as well.
I see that the name of "BoraBora" would sound better than any other island in your trip report, but I was quite disappointed when I was there: too much expensive, too many tourists, too far from an idea of a sea paradise of quiet and relax that grew up in my mind.
Even though its lagoon is beautiful, I don't think it will be worth to get up a 6 am and spend most of your time on the plane, waiting at the docks for the ferry that brings you at Vaitape and looking for someone who would rescue you and finally bring at your final destination...
...if you are seeking for a relaxing holiday consider a one(or two)-night(s) stay at Tetiaroa, Marlon Brando's private atoll just 20 minutes flight far from Papeete, that would cost 450US$ for two people (my girlfriend and I went there for a honeymoon-like escapade from Papeete's traffic jams), meals, transferts and excursion included and much cheaper in comparison with a single person 250US$ R/T fare to get to Bora, plus accomodation (starting at 120$ per room to a 1100US$ overwater bungalow ocean front at Int'l BeachComber at Pointe Matira) and meals.
And remember that it would be raining all the week long, since December and January are the most wet months with an average rain height of over 2000mm/month!!!
Finally, I also suggest you to look for flight+accomodation passes available at local air carrier
www.airtahiti.pf (http://www.airtahiti.pf)
www.sejoursdanslesiles.pf (http://www.sejoursdanslesiles.pf)
which allow you to visit more than one island at interesting prices....I did that but it's a little tiring due to early morning scheduled flights.
Enjoy French Polynesia,
Nana.
