Has anyone recently taken a cruise out of Nadi Fiji on Blue Lagoon Cruises or Captain Cook Cruises? If so, would you recommend it? thanks

took captain cook cruises in sydney which are just local cruises through the harbour, pretty boring. there are entertainment guide coupons on sydney which give you 2 for 1 coffee cruises. the dinner cruise (set) isn't very exciting and not worth it really for about US$60 or so. Suggest you take a cruise to manly on the public transport ferry and have a wonderful nice meal in Manly with the money you save.

Captain cook i think also do a cruise from Sydney to brisbane to townsville to cairns. they often have specials on, so I would do a search online through google under that and limit the domain to .au and check out the results.

I haven't taken these cruises personally but I have the brocures from my last Fiji visit and recall them being rather expensive. Some cruises just seem to circle the main island and stop at major resorts. It's basically a floating hotel-ferry but nothing like a large cruise ship.

If you want to travel by ferry in Fiji then why not take a regular ferry to some smaller island resort and back and spend the rest of the time travelling by land between points of intertest?

Sorry to bump this back to the top, it looks like I'm a little late posting here http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif! I live in Fiji part of the year, and I've been on quite a few of the cruise here. The cruise ships here in Fiji carry at most about a hundred people so it's not the kind of cruise you would find leaving Miami for the Caribean, but it's things like that that make Fiji special. All the cruises in Fiji are on small boats with exceptional personalised service, great food and wine and wonderful destinations. I highly recommend Blue Lagoon, but Captain Cook are also good - I don't think you can really compare them to a cruise through Sydney harbour.
Ferries are another way to see Fiji, but it is a completely different experience. No luxury, no amneties but plenty of fun and great people. Best thing to do is decide where you want to go and see what boats are going there. Frequencies between the main islands are at best 3x per week, at worst 1x per month (to Rotuma). I live on Taveuni where we're lucky enough to get 2 ferries a week. Please feel free to email me if you're thinking about exploring Fiji by Ferry, but for most people I really can recommend the cruises. I think they start about US$500 for 4 days.

Cheers, Zac
