I'm planning to visit Fiji and staying at the Treasure Island Resort for a few nights in March. Anyone who would have experiences on Treasure Island or any other island in the Mamanuca region?

I haven't been on the Treasure Island but I like Fiji as a whole. It is a very nice place with friendly locals who don't expect to be tipped for everything they do. I think that Pointsgirl might be able to give a more detailed overview of Fiji.

Fiji is beautiful!! I did not stay at Treasure Island, but here is some information that may be useful to you.
There are a few really wonderful properties that are on tiny little islands, but you will spend a lot of money.
Here is a list of some of the resorts in Fiji:

They consider the following Deluxe: Accommodations:
1. Turtle Island
2. Vomo Island Resort,Yasawa
3. Namale Resort

Then you have Luxury Resorts:
1. Treasure Island Resort
2. Toberua Island Resort
3. Natadola Beach Resort
4. Sonaisali Island
5. Outrigger Reef Fiji
6. Shangri-La Fijian Resort
7. The Warwick Fiji

Then you have some Midrange properties:
1. Beachcomber Island
2. Hideaway Resort
3. Wananavu Resort
4. Naviti Resort

Then they have what they consider budget accommodations:
1. Tambua Sands Beach Resort
2. Bedarra Inn
3. Tubakula Beach
4. Centra,Pacific Harbour

I stayed at Crusoes Retreat, and while it was not as lively as some of the bigger places like the Shangri-La Fijian Resort, it was beautiful and the service was very good. One of the couples that was staying there goes to Fiji every year and prefers to stay there to any other property because you get a better feel for the island and culture. Crusoes is at the very end of the Coral Coast. The Coral coast is where a large part of all the main resorts are located.

No matter where you go, you will have a wonderful time.

I haven't been to Treausre island for years so it has probably changed a lot.

I do remember it being a very small Island, which is great if all you want to do is lay on the beach and water sports. I also remember the Island being over run with daytrippers from cruise ships.

How does one get to Fiji economically?

May want to burn some MP miles (or earn MP miles), - What are the *Alliance options?
Thanks,
Mandy

Air New Zealand is the *A carrier. AA miles are applicable on the Fijian carrier Air Pacific.

I stayed on Malolo island several years ago, which isn't too far from treasure island. As someone else mentioned, these small islands are great for just lying around on the beach and doing watersports etc. If you want more fancy accommodation or golf, shopping etc, you may prefer a place on the mainland.

Anyhow, I found this place to be great. Treasure island is supposedly a better place than malolo, but as someone else mentioned, it is more regularly frequented by day visitors, so may not be so private. The huts on my island were not air conditioned at all which made it a little warm mid-summer, but other than that it was fantastic.

Really any place will be fine as long as you think you will get to do the things that are important to you during your stay. Good luck! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

If you can get out to the Yasawas (easily accessible by quick seaplane) or quick catamaran from the wharf, then consider the Oarsman Bay Resort or the Octopus Resort on Waya. Great food, incredible scenery and not at all crowded in the least.
