I seem to recall a discussion somewhere around here on "Mystery Flights" ... well, if you live in Detroit, here's your chance:

http://www.nwa.com/features/mystery.shtml

$79 for yourself (or $139 for you and a friend), you leave Saturday morning and come back that night or very early Sunday morning (if you go to the West Coast).

Possible destinations include Boston, Minneapolis, New York, Reno, San Francisco, Tampa and West Palm Beach. National Car Rental will also offer reduced rates for one-day rentals in select destinations.

However, no WorldPerks milage!!!

Who would want to spend all day on an airplane with no miles?

I bet there are many people who would like to spend the day in New York shopping or at the mall in Minneapolis.
How about a few hours at a casino in Reno.

Let me get this straight -- you get up early a couple of days before the flight to stand in line and buy a ticket. A couple of days later you get up at the crack of dawn, drive to the airport, park, fly for a few hours, then have a couple of hours in a city before having to get back on the plane, arriving late at night or maybe even at three in the morning. And for no miles! I think I'll pass.

My sentiments match Milescribe's exactly. It would have to be cost < $25 (or have ff credit) to even interest me.

maybe I'm just incorrigible, but if miles were included, I'd enjoy going--seeing a different part of the country, etc etc. (However, I also enjoy going to Europe for a long weekend using the internet specials...)

Travelscribe,

I agree with you but if you haven't flown since Uncle Rufus got married in 1982 and think it is exciting when you go into the next county, this mystery flight program is for you.

jamiel: You can go to Europe right here, and it costs you nothing (although you don't get any miles for it. Just imagine Rudi's (or is it idur's/) chocolates. What could be more European.

I think that the mystery flight idea is a great one for a gift (okay, you don't get miles, but you do get the excitement) - buy two tickets, one for yourself & one for the person that you want to 'surprise', preferably someone who doesn't travel that much (a kid who's never seen the world?), & spend the day somewhere new...

There are a huge number of people who don't travel much - one of my partner's colleagues just got his very first passport, at the age of 32! I don't know if he'd even been to Canada before. A mystery flight would be a big thrill for someone like him: he's not a ff, so he wouldn't care about the miles.

This mystery flight seems like fun but I'd
like to know where I'm going with some time
to "mentally" prepare. (I tend to act different in Vegas from Paris from the Mall of America.) You can draw the picture.

I guess a mystery flight is better than the mystery lunch United served me on my last flight......
