Two of Amtrak’s “bullet trains” came to a grinding halt in a derailment here Tuesday.

One of the 150 mph Acela locomotives — the flagship of Amtrak’s new high-speed service on the Northeast corridor — came off the tracks at the Granite Street rail crossing at 10 a.m. No one was injured.

The failure of a weak spot at a small S-bend on the 100-year-old track is believed to be the cause of the derailment, according to both members of the train crew and investigators.

Although it's probably obvious to many (including myself) from the simple fact that the train was in Vermont, I think it would have been worth noting that this was not a train in passenger service. It would be good to know at a glance that the weak bit of track is not on the line where the Acela does its 150mph passenger runs. Picking nits, I suppose, not meaning to be critical, just wanted to bring it up in this post so people are aware before clicking the link.
