Trip Reports - "If you build it, they will ride to it"

Being a beautiful fall day here in Chicago, my buddies and I decided to take off and visit the movie set for "Field of Dreams".

It is located near Dyersville, Iowa (about 40 minutes away from Dubuque, Iowa).

The field is open from April through November (9am to 6pm). But now is a great time to visit as: it is not humid/hot, the corn around the outfield is at it's tallest, and the leaves are changing making the ride all that more beautiful.

As usual with my two knucklehead friends, leaving on time is not an option. So we got started late and shot out of Chicago on the NW (90) Tollway to Rockford, IL. There we caught 20 West to Dubuque, IA. 20 is very boring UNTIL you pass Freeport, then it is the heartland at its best, rolling farmlands combined with thick forests.

20 also passes through Galena, IL which is a B&B hotspot. Very quaint.

After reaching Dubuque, we continued on 20 West to the Dyersville exits, just follow the signs to the field.

We brought along our gloves, bats and softballs (we love softball, can't hit a baseball!). Spent the sunny afternoon egging other people into playing with us. I say egging, but as soon as people started to play, they did not want to stop. ended up with almost two full teams (and we were only three).

Seeing as the park was about to close, we attempted to start our trip to stay at a hotel along the Mighty Mississippi. Of course with motorcycles (old ones), you can't always be assured of them starting. Sure enough one did not. So we decided to drive straight home and skip the planned next day riding along the Miss in SW Wisconsin. Took the same route home.

Even though the trip did not turn out as planned, just playing on the Field was quite fun, much more than I expected as I am not a baseball fan. My buddies (who are baseball fans) could not describe the pleasure they had.

I highly recommend a trip to the Field of Dreams in Iowa.

Thanks for the trip report. Always wanted to visit the Field of Dreams, as (1) I was born and raised in Iowa, (2) I am a huge baseball fan, and (3) This is one of my all-time favorite movies.

cactuspete, or anyone who goes,

MAKE SURE YOU BRING A GLOVE AND A BALL!!!!!
PLAYING ON THE FIELD IS GREAT FUN.

We are now planning a trip next Fall which will consist of getting two teams to play on the field, then retire to a couple of houseboats on the Mighty Miss for two days.
