Ansett Australian Global Rewards - Anyone interested in 04 Mar FT/AN farewell?

It seems like an end of an era has finally hit us & a very sad day indeed. Although it is very sad for me, I'd hate to be in the shoes of a staff member who has just forked out thousands of dollars, to find a new position with the Tesna Ansett, and someone who was hit with the September collapse & almost 6 months of limbo.

Anyone out there tempted to go out for the last bang? Yes, there is plenty of L class.

Cheers,

Justin

How about evening flight to/from SYD?

I could go to that. the last flight from SYD-MEL???

AN76 MEL 1800 SYD 1920
AN91 SYD 2000 MEL 2120

Could be one of the last operating AN flights in the system, except perhaps something from PER....

Guys,

Count me in on a SYD-MEL-SYD or SYD-BNE-SYD on either SAT, SUN, or MON. AN means so much to me I will take Monday off.

We have to fly the old girl one more time. If anyone is interested please e-mail me @ mx5_boys@yahoo.com .

My hear goes out to all my friends at AN.

(I can get us into GW if it means anything to anyone - not that it is exciting these days but plenty of photo ops with staff etc.)

Cheers,

Michael John Ellis

I wish I lived in Sydney or Melbourne and could do this with you guys. It's no fun just doing it by myself.

Trentis,

Wait and see what we all can organise mate. We could all meet in MEL at some time over the weekend or Monday.

Drop me an e-mail and lets see what we can all organise.

Whatever the flight I take I fully intend to take a bunch of roses and hand them to staff along the way. And use as many rolls of film possible.

Just been checking flight schedules for
Monday for a trip down to Sydney and back.
Looks like Mondays schedule for Brisbane Sydney is scaled back, probably just to move the last of the passengers.

There was a flight at 10:35am getting in at 1;05pm,
The next flight was 6;05pm to 8;45pm.
The last flight from Sydney to Brisbane was at 8;10pm arriving at 8;40pm.
$77.00 fares were available on these flights.
Virgin Blue had a 3;20pm flight for $132.00 inc Tax, Qantas had a 4;30pm flight getting in at 19:10pm for $220.00 so that would only leave an hour to change terminals and fly back.
I am flying Qantas on Friday for the Grand Prix and returning Sunday night.

I am so torn. part of me wants to do this very much. The other part knows that I will prob. have a good cry along with the staff and everyone else, and I'm not sure I want to put money and time into such a sad "celebration" (wake)....

I think it's all moot anyway, looks like L class has gone on the flights. I can't even get the booking engine to give me a price for the flights required except for selecting unrestricted

I cant even get it to show any flights on Monday now.

What about a little wake/FT event in CBR... with Kendell still operating and little transfer traffic we should be able to pick up some discount fares. Whilst it might not be AN persay, it will at least be an AN flight number and there will be a big A on the tail.

We can at least drown our sorrows over a beer or two and then come on home wondering what life will be like on the dark side post March 4.

Reagardless of what we manage to come up with I would very much like together will all of you for a beer at some point in time.

Best Regards

Bradley

The sad thing is that we were seeing bookings on the rise every day. Easter was going to be huge. So be it. My family name started working for AN 49 years ago and ends on friday, ADL-SYD. I hope the winds are calm, the Captain helpfull and the touchdown smooth. Will be hard to judge the flare thru all those tears.

jeez mate...this is an official time for mourning. But this time we're actually knowing when she'll be dead and buried.

One more post guys....

Let me know what you all decide to do, I'd love to join you and finally get face to face. No staff discount anymore so it's a bit hard to get anywhere spare of the moment but if there is anything happening in SYD, let me know. Can't promise there wont be a tear or two but a few champers will fix that. Cant drink in uniform but what can they do...sack me!!

Well, after all these years, sadly the worst now appears imminent.

I'll be there for the final revenue SYD-MEL flight. AN@SYD, there's no email in your profile, so I'm just leaving my travel details out here.

I've requested window seats, but I'd love 1A again. Unfortunately the last agent only told me that I could have window, aisle or bulkhead. I'm wondering which one they put in to give me those 1As http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Another agent was kind enough to modify my fixed L class booking to allow me to travel on the very last revenue SYD-MEL flight. It's this type of service that I'll miss.

Cheers,

Justin

I understand all AN SYD staff are gathering for a guard of honour to receive the last flight (aparently the PER-SYD redeye, arr 0645). I've heard they expect 2,000 staff all in uniform to say a fond farewell and let her die with grace. Also farewell drinks in the GW Club from 6pm Monday....

That is Ansett Staff Style.

I'm with you in spirit.....

Last Ansett flight
AAP
01mar02

ANSETT'S last flight will take off at a quarter to midnight Perth time next Monday night.

The red-eye special lands in Sydney at 6.45 am local time before it ferries its crew back to Melbourne that same morning.

Ansett's last operational aircraft will then be parked at Melbourne's airport.

The latest Ansett final flight follows a series of groundings and operational halts by the airline since it collapsed in September last year.

Melbourne businessmen Lindsay Fox and Solomon Lew pulled out of their deal to buy the airline on Tuesday, removing all hope the airline could operate as a going concern.

Administrators have said its assets will now be sold off to give some return to creditors, the airline.
