Ansett Australian Global Rewards - Anyone interested in 01Feb FT/AN celebration?

RichardMEL

I'm thinking of ditching work and grabbing a quick r/t to SYD or somesuch - partly for miles, partly to welcome onboard AN-III (or whatever). Anyone else planning something? Maybe we could have FT meet up or mini meet in one of the GW Clubs?!!

Comments?!

Richard,

I'm on the first AN service out of Melbourne :_)

Ansett is based in Melbourne, and Sydney gets AN1. Go figure...

Cheers,

Justin

AN4 Justtin?

It's great to see the old/real flight numbers back!!

It might well be an option - don't have to get out of work, and really celebrate!!!

Yep,

It's in the first batch of first flights round the country.

* AN203 BNE-SYD at 0500 (GMT+10)
* AN001 SYD-MEL at 0600 (GMT+11)
* AN004 MEL-SYD at 0600 (GMT+11)

* AN330 ADL-MEL at 0600 (GMT+10.5)

* AN154 PER-SYD at 0610 (GMT+8)

If you want to fly AN on the first day, fly on the first flight http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I'd love to be on AN001 with SEQ1

I'm sure they'll be doing something special.

Cheers,

Justin

I'm on AN330 on 01/02, flying back on AN355, which means I'm in MEL from around 7:40am until 7:55pm. I'll probably end up around town somewhere, but if someone wants to meet up, I'd love to catch up. But I'm guessing Justin and Richard will be up in SYD. Dagnamit!

Oh Lord, why am I consitently tempted to outlay so much money on such trivial cr*p???!!!

I'm already going on the first QF 738 flight on 4 Feb (BNE-SYD @ 5am - subject to them changing the flight schedules).

Now it looks I'll be on the 6am to MEL on 1 Feb.

I was also extremely close to outlaying more dollars for the last QF 747SP flight at the end of February (SYD-NOU-HNL-SYD in one hit).

Man - you people are killing me, and my wallet. Just keep quite and stop telling me about all these firsts.

I am very tempted to do AN4 returning on AN27 or so. Still shows as $154+taxes (14 day adv purchase L fare). If I wasn't working I'd fly to SYD and stay overnight for AN1, but I'm not that crazy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

Justin, I'm real tempted!!!

I will be doing my bit to support ANIII. Just booked the following:

01 FEB; SYD-MEL; AN 1; 0600/0720
01 FEB; MEL-SYD; AN 28; 0900/1020

Got an L class fare for about $180 including taxes.

Yeah, Justin, you're right...the withdrawal of AN from the HKG route has meant the fares have gone up a heap. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I guess I'll be passing you at around 800 km/h somewhere around Albury, hey Richard?

I wonder who's going to win the title of being on the first flight. How shall we measure this, time of push-back or time of takeoff? Make sure ya watch is accurate!!!

I rang up AN today to put in a seat request and was told a few things:

* Specific seat requests are available for international customers (did not know this)

* Meal requests are available but no guarantee of catering was made for the flight (she even entered in the PNR that I was aware of this). I requested a vegetarian lacto-ovo.

* Golden Wing lounges will be open but whether Star Gold can gain access to the new lounges is yet to be determined. However, I doubt the lounges will be open for the 6am flights in any case.

* Similar situation with Star Gold check-in - depends on whether the new AN is a * member.

I'll be sure to post a trip report advising on catering, check-in, GW access etc. It'd be good if others could do the same!!

Cheers
MD

I also called AN reservations tonight and was told of no guarantee of meals etc on 01/02, but only because the reservations staff apparently won't be told of any changes until that date. Same goes for FF!

RichardMEL
Jan 19, 02, 7:06 am
That seems a bit dodgy to not reveal *anything* until the first day of ops!

I mean okay I can deal if it's not resolved, because I am sure it will still be a blast being on AN4, but it's weird.

btw, anyone notice the confirmation emails still have airnz.com all over the headers? *grrrr*

My confirmation e-mail never even turned up...

Skystar
Jan 19, 02, 4:28 pm
Well,

All the e-ticket receipts are being sent out in AN/NZ envelopes, and why should they waste them? If you look at the emails from AN, you'll find they often have a aus.airnz.com in there somewhere.

Specific seat requests - that has only been for AN International to the best of my knowledge.

As for Star Golds, I can't imagine them not allowing them in, when all agents I have spoken to are letting them in now.

Well, we can check the airport websites to see who got off first. It's a competition between MEL, SYD & BNE http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif First one to touchdown should be AN004 from MEL though (forget about the schedules, MEL-SYD is always faster than SYD-MEL; you only have to read the flight plans).

If there's no onboard catering at all (which would surprise me), you'll just have to stock up at the Golden Wing lounge http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Cheers,

Justin

But they do give a "B" for breakfast in the service section, and have appointed a caterer, so surely we'd get some kind of "egg surprise" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

And I guess even if there's no meal service for economy, there should be a meal in business class, seeing as that's being offered again from 01/02. I wonder what C class loads will be like on the first flights!?

MilesDependent
Jan 21, 02, 2:24 am
I imagine the C load factors will be around zero on the first day. I am hoping to get an op upgrade to C as a UA*G, but this will depend on when I can call up with my FF info, which will depend on when the new program is announced...

MD

PS: Hey Richard, are you going to be wearing one of these?

AN is offering C fares on its website (showing D0, don't know if that is because they have no discounted C fares, or just hopeful YM!).

As for comp upgrade for UA*G.. good luck but AN never comp'd in the past that I knew of, and I doubt they would do it even for 01Feb, but you never know. That would be nice/cool.

cool cap!! Well I'd love to wear one if I had one, but I don't. I had a friend at LH trying to source me one but that is on hold (much like AN's * membership).

I am thinking to wear:

* AN starmark pin
* AN "Absolutely" badge with Star logo (but unsure about this - it may go down like a lead baloon... and I don't want to do that!)

possibly some kind of UA pin, haven't decided. Something to set security off, anyway http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And of course, FT tag on my carry on!
