NZ is the * partner chosen to replace AN under the westpac "altitude" rewards program for their card.

So the choice is between the dark side and the Black Sheep of the family. sigh.

Well it's practically a carbon copy of the old AN GR - probably a bit better though.

Are QF points worth more than NZ points? It would seem to me that way, given that NZ are kilometre based, and QF are mile based.

Cheers,

Justin

Yes I would tend to agree Justin...

Australia-Asia is 50K on QF yet 80K on NZ... Ok granted that on a points earned for flights basis would work out to be about the same but we are talking per dollar spent on a credit card here.

However, NZ has awards (short domestic flights) from as little as 4750 points (one way) whereas the cheapest QF reward is 20K. So this would be great for those members who don't spend a hell of a lot of money on their credit card.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out should AN get back up in the air... will they be willing to resign with AN whilst still offering QF and NZ as partners? It will be interesting to see how things pan out. They could go the full mile I suppose, and do a diners club - I could really do with some extra Group Taca miles!

Best Regards

Bradley

Yes, the Ansett coming back factor is very annoying for me, as I'm somewhat lost in the mire of various Star Alliance FFPs.

LH - I'll have a good handful of points here
SQ - 10k bonus if I credit any Star flights here
UA - 16k just for flying MEL-SYD v.v for $130
NZ - double points to NZ

aargh!

Cheers,

Justin

I cannot for the life of me work how you can earn 16k for the MEL-SYD return as any level flier with any bonuses. Please enlighten me.

Here's a very, very clear breakdown

MEL-SYD UA 500ml minimum - double points 1000
SYD-MEL as above
Total 2000 points

Mileage Plus joining bonus
10000ml

First time online booking bonus
4000ml

16000ml.

If I were a premier, make that 16,500 pts.

Convinced? Not bad, eh?

Cheers,

Justin

Except that if you were a Premier you couldn't get the 10K joing bonus... so down to 6,500

ZB - From memory the 10K is not a joining bonus, is for any roundtrip UA tix bought in the land of Oz for a flight by a member with an oz address. Koala

Actually you *could* be a premier, or prem ex and get the joining bonus. The whole point of the promo was to sign up AN elite members who were in limbo. UA would match their AN status with UA status, and you'd get the 10k miles for your first trip. Thus you could eb comp'd to UA 1P status _and_ get the 10K bonus for the one trip. Thus your MEL-SYD r/t woudl break down:

1000 miles base
1000 miles 1P bonus
1000 miles double miles (if flown before 15th dec)
4000 miles online booking bonus first time
10000 miles UA oz sign up bonus

= 17,000 miles

of course future trips would only yield

1000 miles base
1000 miles 1P bonus
1000 miles online booking bonus

= 3,000 miles

don't I wish! I'd be rolling in miles in that case! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

It's a sign up bonus for _new_ MP members and is clearly designed to woo ex-AN passengers (and matches the SQ offer).

Westpac have announced their new Altitude Program.

http://www.westpac.com.au/internet/publish.nsf/Content/PBCCCS+Important+message

I'm not too sure how the "redeem flights with any airline in the world" will work. I assume it will be similar to the Citibank Platinum program where your points just act as $$$ towards the cost of a ticket that you book. I also imagine it will be extremely bad value compared with just transferring the points over to QF...

Remember also the 11,000 mile BONUS good for 9 months from July 2001 to April 2002 for USA trips. There was no limit on that offer either. With the double miles for all in past few months and also double miles for Elites at all times, that is 58,520 m BEFORE any on-line booking bonuses. To East Coast USA make that more like 75,000+ UA miles for one lowball $1350 r/t coach ticket to NYC. So one cheapie coach ticket could give a 1P/1K VERY close to one free r/t Business Class ticket (90,000) to anywhere in USA/Canada.

Unforunately that Mastercard promo required tickets to be purchased by September 30, 2001. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Anyway there's still plenty of miles there.

John - aware of that, and pre-booked a lot of travel because of it - which is good until April 2002 to use. The 100% bonus due to 9/11 was just a surprise bonus. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif My Math was illustrating the present point "income" for tickets already booked and not yet flown, or flown after September in fact.
