Ansett deal jobs lure
MELBOURNE would win the lion's share of jobs under the new Ansett proposed by Lindsay Fox and Solomon Lew.
The businessmen plan to retain Ansett's headquarters in Melbourne and the airline's maintenance depots at Tullamarine.
Passengers could also look forward to watching cable TV, making in-flight phone calls and using the Internet from their seats on a fleet of new Airbus jets.
The Fox-Lew bid proposes using 29 new Airbus planes that would be continually upgraded so that up to 60 new aircraft would be used in the first five years. Mr Fox, who sat on the board of Continental Airlines in the US for 10 years, said he hoped to reach agreement with Ansett's administrators to take over the airline within two weeks.
