As long as NZ doesnt play a role an SG involvement can only be positive. Heard Jim Farmer say on the radio today that SG's renewed interest in AN2 is his making. What a dill.

Hopes that Singapore Airlines could become Ansett's white knight rose when the federal government gave the Asian carrier the go-ahead to move into the beleaguered airline.

Singapore Airlines (news/quote) was expected to sign a management contract with collapsed Australian airline Ansett with an option to buy the carrier, Ansett's administrator said Wednesday.

That weasel Howard came on national TV and stated in an unwilling voice that he has no problems with SQ acquiring AN.

SIA bows out from Ansett bid

SIA has walked away from pumping any money into a relaunched Ansett.

Instead, the Singapore carrier is finalising a business plan for the Ansett administrators, Mark Mentha and Mark Korda, of accounting firm Andersen.
The agreement, expected to be signed in the next few days, is for SIA to help manage Ansett Mark II while it is under administration and until a buyer is found.

So what does SQ get out of all their troubles if they don't have an ownership cut in AN II or III or IV as the case may be?

Australian budget airline Virgin Blue said Monday it intends to make a formal bid for rival carrier Ansett, but only after it has looked at the company's books.

``We will put in a formal bid when we get access to information, but we haven't cited exactly when,'' said Virgin Blue's commercial chief, David Huttner.

``We hope to do so soon and we are in discussions with parties such as the Lang Corporation who might make that possible,'' he added.
