I have a reliable source that told me HP will announce new non-stop service this weekend from LAX to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Edmonton and Vancouver, effective in June. Sounds like Alaska is gonna have some new competition and that HP is turning LAX into a quasi micro hub. Hmmmmmmm.

I believe there are some unused or rarely used gates at LAX that are being shared by US and HP. So there is room for ops expansion at LAX.

I was hoping for LAX to IAD or MIA, but oh well.

We really need a flight to LAX. It is a pain to connect to fly to such a huge USA west coast city. I just wish it were on a real plane http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The rumor is true. The flights will be from LAX to YEG, YVR, MZT, PVR. The flight will be scheduled for June. HP will probably have departure times and pressrealease announced next week. Thanks, HP employee.

LAX to Mazatlan or PV on an RJ! There's some big competition for Alaska! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Or better yet -- the 1359 miles to Edmonton (in a non-first-class-equipped RJ). Yuk.

I took a mesa- RJ from Eugene to PHX last fall. Not a pleasant experience one bit. I would say that is about 1200 miles. Of coure if Freedom operated that flight, there would be a good chance of an F equipped RJ, but to no avail.

Yea, I was kinda surprised when I saw it was an RJ that's gonna be doing the flying. My guess/hope is they are just testing the waters to see how popular the routes are, then they'll switch them over to mainline ops if they proove popular (just a guess).

The only good to come of this is the added LAX-JFK/BOS transcons.

No announcement of LAX/SFO-MIA/ORD or intra-CA flights is kind of a letdown.

I'm sure people who are not familiar with RJ's will end up in those planes. HP probably won't get their repeat business though.

As I'm well-known to say over at the AC board, Any service including on a CRJ, is better than no service at all.

AC had non-stop YEG-LAX but cancelled it and now tries to hub through YYC or YVR much the same as they try to hub through YYC for PHX.

I, for one, will fly CRJ before I give the Morons from Montreal (a.k.a. Management (sic) at AC) a dime for a trans-border fare.

if it the crj 900 equip, then the aircraft will be configured for first class.

It's not -- at least on the dates I looked at.

The ugly truth appears to be that they are going to reconfigure their "Express" brand and that Mesa will change from 84 Y and 6 F to 90 F....

Ouch! It still looks like you're being punished PE.

Are they reconfiguring both the CRJ-700s and -900s to all Y seating? When is this supposed to take place?

Ooops! In my above post I meant "90 Y"! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I am told it is on all Mesa operated routes, which I understand is America West Express.

Okay, I'm not very good at math but 84Y + 6F = 90. How does a reconfig to 90Y work exactly? It must be less than 84 Y now, no?

Not sure I am willing to spend that much time on "the tube", even if non-stop.

My sources gave me the wrong configuration # as the CRJ900 has only 80 seats and they are going to go from 74 Y and 6 F to 80 Y I believe but I would suspect that it might be more than 80 Y if they remove F.

I believe the CRJ-900 has a standard all-coach configuration for 90 passengers, so it's likely it will be converted from the current 6F/74Y to 90Y.

Good to see that America West is shying away from Phoenix for many of these routes. I also like the connections through Las Vegas much better than Phoenix.

It looks like the third LAX-BOS and LAX-JFK flights that were supposedly seasonal may not be. They suddenly are available for sale for the fall, and had not been just a week ago.

I think it's about time you get out of the cold and move someplace warm. :D
