A buddy of mine has just moved to Phoenix, and will be working every week in LA, flying back and forth. Any chance he can talk his way into a comped second level status in FlightFund? Normally they will match status, but in his case, he hasn't flown a lot in the last few years. That's about to change. Appreciate any thoughts or experiences any of you may have had with this.

Does he have status with someone now? Truthfully, from what you described, I don't see him getting anything more than Silver. That should give him upgrades.

Also, tell him to route his flights through LAS. He'll earn next years status faster.

It is pretty unlikely. However the best shot he would have is to book a significant amount of flights in advance. Then once they are booked, request a comp with the reasoning you you have indicated. Doing this may give him a much better chance.

If he doesn't have any status at the moment to comp to, he could always do an Elite challenge. That'll give him trial Silver Elite immediately and he could then earn Silver/Gold/Platinum based on his level of flying during the 90-day period.
