America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Newbie Q: What Does HP Mean?

OK, nothing like starting off with a stupid question!
I assume HP is the acronym for what AW used to be, but why do people continue to use it?
I'm an Atlantan, and began with AW back in October as a Delta refugee. I started a job with monthly travel to Seattle, and figured that the FF perks would outweigh the lack of a non-stop. Plus, short notice tix are much cheaper! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Now that I have FF status, I'm looking for tips on the best seat locations, since Seat Guru doesn't have AW in their database...
Any info around on that? I didn't locate any on a search.

OK, so why do people use it, rather than AW for short?

Because it's also an abbreviation for their favorite F meal http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

You'll find there is a pretty strong traditon here at FlyerTalk that members speak of airlines by their designated two-letter code, whether it makes sense or not. (i.e. Southwest is WN, Jet Blue is B6, Frontier is F9)
A related tradition is how we often speak of cities by their three-letter airport code. Fortunately, there is a legend for those, so you can fairly easily look them up under this link (http://www.webflyer.com/travel/milemarker/lookup.shtml) (which is located under the "help" tab above). No such resource here for bizarre airline codes, though, this one (http://www.wajb.freeserve.co.uk/codes.htm) is decent third-party site, but not very current.
Welcome to FlyerTalk, by the way!

Welcome Clindner, sorry it took 4 replies before AZ Travels actually answered the specific question. To participate in this forum you will have to learn to deal with people that have time to kill, most of us have.

Hopefully you will get answers to your other questions. One more tip, when starting a thread you may not want to select that you want to be emailed when someone replies. As you can see, it may take a few replies to even address your answer, just check back often.

Thanks for the encouragement, folks!
I did a search, but I guess I didn't know I could search old archived posts.. I'll have to look into that.

There is no real reason for the HP designation. When America West was formed, AW was already assinged to another carrier.
America West will tell you they like to think it stands for "happy passengers"
