My status is about to expire. Will any of the reservations I make now have any sway post status?

Did you qualify for silver or Gold?
If you're talking about upgrades, then your reservations will be treated according to your status during the upgrade window.
If you have no status then you can either buy a full fare ticket now and upgrade it immediately, or upgrade using miles.
