America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Ticket agent doesn't know if my fare is restricted or not....

I purchased a ticket at the LAS service center today. A first class one way LAX-JFK. Ticket came out to $510, fare basis YAUPNH. I asked the agent if the ticket was changeable. She said "yes," then "no," then "I'm not sure!"

On my receipt, the ticket says "no refund" but it does not say "no changes."

I called HP when I got home, and they told me there would be a $100 penalty for any change.

I am a bit annoyed that on a Y class ticket (F actually), there is a change fee. Is this accurate?

The agent went ahead and waived the fee (as I already had a change). But I may not be so lucky next time.

Shame on the ticket agent. America West now has delightful one-way walkup fares but they are nonrefundable and have a change fee. Works for me.

I believe the ``N'' in your fare basis indicates non-refundable. Sounds like you purchased a non-refundable ``Y-upgrade'' ticket. If you had bought a straight F ticket -- probably for at least double the price -- I'm sure it wouldn't be restricted.
Not 100 percent sure. reading HP's fare codes is sometimes more difficult than reading Mandarin.

Ok, I know it is non-refundable now.

But does that in and of itself mean non-changeagble, or is that a separate code.

Yes, there is a change fee to the "A" ticket...

I bought a similar ticket like yourself and have to change the date...
