Just found out HP will start seasonal summertime service to Anchorage, Alaska. The service will start around June 1st and run through after Labor Day in Sept. HP will offer 1 flight a day from Phoenix. I imagine the flight departure will be in the later afternoon and arrive late in the evening. The flight will be a turnaround "red-eye" flight from Anchorage and arrive back to PHX around 7 am or so. America West probably will not have a press-release announcement or have seats to sell until sometime next week. I believe the last time AWA had seasonal ANC service was during the summer of 2001. This will be nice convience to have for Phoenicians who want to escape the summertime heat and not have to make connections in Seattle.

Thanks for the update. Alaska is a nice place to visit. I just got back from a trip last month which I went to see the Northern Lights in ANC and Fairbanks. It was an experience of a lifetime.

First Frontier, now America West. I wonder if Alaska will counteract with a PHX-ANC nonstop like they did in Denver.

That would be nice, especially if the price dropped.

I just booked my travel to Alaska yesterday. Then, and now, the lowest fare in the market is Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines at $311.80 r/t. America West's lowest fare is $517.20! Fares quoted do not include PFCs, security fee, and segment taxes.
I chose Alaska Airlines. I was able to confirm my MVP Gold upgrades at the time of ticketing on all segments. Also, I booked a free stopover in Seattle.
I wonder if America West will be serving hot pockets in First Class on this route? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif
Any guesses as to how many FF miles will be necessary for a free coach or first class trip to Anchorage?

I would assume 25,000 for coach and 50,000 for First Class.
Are you sure it's seasonal service?
It is loaded in Sabre through the end of the year.

Ouch! That's too much. I'll take AS's service with a stop in SEA to save $206.

Hello everyone,
I started this topic on HP's service to ANC. I guess I stand to be corrected. America West service to ANC will be yearound, not just seasonal. I am surprised they will are offering yearound service. In the past years, they only offered summertime service. However, I don't see how this ANC route will be profitable for AWA during the rest of the year. It would not shock me if they don't discontinue ANC service or only offer 1x or 2x weekly service during offpeak season. Oh well, we shall see.
