If this lowers AA's PHX-DFW fares, I'll have to say thanks HP.

Seriously, I don't see this 5% discount as much of a 'jab' when compared to AA's $158 JFK-PHX fares. AA can dump cheap fares to PHX from DFW.

5% off a lowest available fare of $292+ segment taxes/PFCs/security fee from PHX.

Although AA has caused HP to mach some retaliatory fares, it is nothing close to the amount AA has had to lower fares in there overpriced transon market. LAX, SFO, BOS, JFK, etc. HP regular everyday transcon fares are a permanent jab to AA and AA can only hope that HP will back out of those markets. Remember AA's walk up fares were at times well over a thousand dollars prior to HP entering into the transcon market. Now they are not even close, so I will join you and thanking HP for causing the others to re-price their fares to a more reasonable level.

Dumping fares such as PHX-JFK cost significant money for AA and a jab is a 'jab' I was not making a determination about the severity of the jab, just that it's a jab. You have to remember AA's cost per mile is significantly higher then HP's. If HP fills the seats even at these ridiculously low prices they can break even, AA can not. With what AA is giving away they are paying people to fly. Oh and just wait till everyone tries to redeem the free ticket during the same seasonal times, good luck finding availability. So I would say 5%, 1000 Hotel Bonus miles, double rental car bonus miles with a free day is not giving away the farm. However on top of already lower walk up fares, no Saturday night stay, etc, it's a statement and another jab to the over priced Legacy carriers however you look at it.

Let’s all remember two years ago HP started making the transformation from a Legacy carrier to a LCC when they changed the pricing structure. The changes in the FF program were inevitable given the transformation. There are a core group of people in this forum that can’t seem to let go and move on to seeing them as a LCC. Take a look at one of there press releases and you will always see “the nations second largest low cost carrier” If you want to compare HP then let’s be fare about it. They are a LCC just as Southwest, TED, SONG, JET BLUE, TRANS, those are the airlines that are in the same classification as HP. All of these LCC have something to offer, HP has First Class and better partners, as well as international relationships, Jet Blue has TV’s, which you will see in the future on HP, Southwest while I don’t prefer it has reliable frequent routes and good prices. Do I like everything about HP, no but I will take them over any of the other LCC’s

I am not discounting the fact that some of the Legacy’s double as a great gourmet restaurant and have better domestic partners but when did it stop being about getting to your destination safely, on time, comfortably and at a reasonably price. I know there are some others besides myself that have accepted the changes. For those of you that have not I wish you the best with HP helping you get better fares on your favorite airline and helping me get better availability when I want a seat on HP. Looks like a win for all of us.

An LLC? America West has transitioned to a limited liability corporation? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

I've moved on. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

You forget that AA doesn't have to match HP's fares on every single flight. They have far more frequency in the transcon market which gives them the option of dumping cheap fares on the flights with similiar dep times as HP.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">

</font>

HP is relying on that, and they better hope that AA doesn't file for Chapter 11. If AA can bring their costs down, they'll make a formidable competitor.

I don't see how HP would compete with a low cost legacy airline who's network can take you anywhere in the world.

When you put it like that it sounds more like a pawing than any jab.

Not everyone redeems at the same time or for the same reasons. Some people burn miles for domestic flights while others save miles for big intl F flights.

You have to remember that people will be redeeming on AA metal and on OW/partner flights to destinations worldwide thereby spreading out the redemption consequence.
