Say goodbye to 20K.
-------------
America West now offers the lowest domestic Award redemption options in the industry! Enjoy the convenience of new short haul vs. long haul mileage redemption amounts! For bookings beginning 1/1/04 the following mileage will be required for Award travel on America West or America West Express.

Short Haul Flights: Flights up to 750 miles one-way (15K)

Long Haul Flights: Flights greater than 750 miles one-way (25K)

Not sure how I feel about this but 50k for a value first class and 90K for top value first class(WOW)is getting up there, for a low fare airline that is.

They had to make these changes to the FF program because they have added the coast to coast long haul. They are handing out miles like there is no tomorrow on these routes and for those of us making runs it is killing them on redemption.

I don't buy that. Even before the transcons you could do LAX-BOS/JFK/EWR runs.

I dont mind the HP redemption increases, but the elite bonus reduction is intolerable.

Sure..you could've done the runs....but not gotten all of the extra bonus miles that they were throwing out there. Different story.

WHAT bonus miles? I must be missing something. According to HP's website, the only promo they're running on transcon is Silver status after 2 RT's.

What bonus miles are you referring to? I got the same elite bonus miles on my LAX-PHX-BOS runs as I did on the LAX-BOS runs.

When customers expect to get shafted every November or December when the new rule changes come out, that's when you know the whole sector is infected.

The 15k award is mostly worthless. Are you going to waste $300 worth of miles for a $99 or $129 round trip?

I can guarantee that HP will not be getting the Freddie next year, unless something changes.

The biggest deal is on the bonus mileage. The increase to 25k isn't horrible, but reduction of 50% on Silver and Gold members is.

In my mind HP and AS were running side by side, but I probably would have still voted for HP.

However, these foolish 'Revisions' combined with AS's addition of CX as a partner, the 50k threshold bonus, and that 100k promo puts them over the top as far as I'm concerned.

For someone flying out of Phoenix, I think this is OK. I see value in redeeming a 15,000 mile award to someplace like Palm Springs, Monterey, Telluride, or Aspen.

If I were based in someplace on the east coast, I would not be happy with these changes.

Based at DFW here, can't get anywhere on HP in under 868 miles!
