America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Future Travel Award + Add Collect = 0

Hi all,
In the past, it was possible to get around the "no FF miles may be earned" stipulation of a Future Travel Award by having an add-collect.
Apparently, this no longer works. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
On several of my flights over the past two months, I have used a $200 FTA for a $275 flight. In the past, this scenario would always give me the miles. It no longer does. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsdown.gif
Has anyone else here had similar (or different) experiences lately?
I'll probably just stop volunteering, which will only add to to possibility that they will have to increase the value of the FTAs given.

I always used to get miles doing exactly what you did. To bad so sad http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Unless you can get an airport agent to insert your FF number when you exchange the FTA for an e-ticket. Some agents will do it for you.

Hi FlyerAl,
My FF# was in the reservation prior to flying.
Of course, it has always been impossible (or extremely unlikely) to get credit for FTA flights after the fact. However, they used to post automatically when an add-collect was done.
Are you saying that your experiences have been different than mine over the past two months? Anyone else? I want to know whether I am now the exception or whether this is what I should expect for the future.
Thanks,
Tim in Hollywood

I have been flying AWA for many years and NEVER was fortunate enough to get miles with a FTA. In some cases I paid more than the value of the FTA and it was ridiculous that a cheaper ticket would give me miles but this one didn't. I recently had to embarrass one of the reservation agents by proving to her that I COULD get miles on an Air Check Plus. America West is the cheapest when it comes to giving anything to anyone !

Which is why I give my vouchers to my kids http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
In seriousness mary - you dont get miles on free UA tickets either - and I think saying that HP is the cheapest is probably an exageration - they give us free upgrades all the time

Do you really appreciate their first class? Aside from the larger seat it is not very different from coach. I could never understand why people are willilng to either pay for or redeem miles for first on them. But that's just my opinion, I admit.

It's always been my understanding that if your FF number is in your reservation and appears on your boarding passes, miles and EUA upgrades are earned on all FTAs/Transporation vouchers and FF award tickets. That was my experience in June when using a $150 transportation voucher.

Am I understanding you correctly? You basically challenged a HP employee that you could break HP rules and get miles when you should not? I amazed when people argue with people when absolutely no good can come of it and in this case just bad news for everyone. I must thank you for closing this loophole for rest of us. I am distgusted.

Indeed! This is crazy!!! Why would ANYONE point this out to HP? Showing some anonymous employee that you know how to beat the system can only be destructive to everyone else.
Not to everyone: Please do not demonstrate your power to find loopholes or circumvent the rules to HP employees. We are not amused.
For the record, I waited quite a while and a few failed attempts to get miles with the FTA before posting this here. I didn't want HP to see it here and close the loophole if it had not already been closed.
jan_az is correct. UA doesn't offer miles for their free tickets. However, I have a voucher in my hands that states that (unlike HP) UA does offer miles when using their $$$ off vouchers.

EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On an Air Check Plus YOU ARE ALLOWED TO RECEIVE MILAGE FOR THE TRIP!!!! It is listed right under number 1 on the back of the coupon. What I was trying to explain is that the employees are so used to our not being able to get miles that they don't even know when it is legit to get them. Gee, what hostility here.
In the past as long as my FF # was in my record I would receive miles on award tickets and FTA. I was pretty good at getting bumped. A short time ago I used an award ticket and I had my FF# in my record and I did not receive any miles for it.When I logged into my FF account to see my FF activity it listed the flight and next to it it said " ticket not eligible for miles" so I'm guessing the party is over.

Most of us who fly HP on a regular basis kinda like them http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif As far as their first class goes - its a bigger seat - what else do I want - the days of catering etc in FC are pretty much gone on all airlines http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Hello Everyone: In case you did not read carefully, I was talking about an Air Check Plus, NOT A FUTURE TRAVEL AWARD. I fly America West more than the other airlines because they have more nonstop flights to the places I go and they are very convenient for my travels.
However, Jan-az, I am not someone who flies hundreds of thousands of miles in a year. I really save my miles on the airlines I fly for a treat. All I was saying was that while I fly AWA a lot, I would not use my miles for an upgrade since I value them too much to use it only for the seat. I was fortunate enough to fly first with my husband to Hawaii on AA and that's what I considered good value. I am not denying that for someone with lots of miles the bigger seat isn't worth it, I am only comparing what I get in first on some airlines and some trips as opposed to what I've experienced on AWA. No offense intended, no revelation to AWA that people were tricking them into getting miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Now everyone, can we play nicely again?

I think you read my post wrong. I have only once in all my yrs of flying on them used miles for an upgrade ( and that was PHX-EWR), I always get them free from them. For that - I will just take the bigger seat http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

mary, Wasnt that his point ? And when have you been excited about the food on a airline. In all my trips I have yet to once think "I cant wait to taste that food in FC". I will take the seat and the space anyday over a $15 meal.

Mary,
I misread your post regarding Future Travel Award/Air Check Plus. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif I am well aware of the differences in the T&C for each.
I stand behind my comments about UA Free Ticket vouchers. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Tim: I have no argument with what you said about UA. I've never flown UA so I am not familiar with their rules. However now that I've gotten the visa and am up to 70,000 miles I'm sure I'll get to know them http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Ken: I was only expressing my own personal opinion that for someone who has no status on HP, I didn't think their FC was worth giving up my miles for. I do respect others' choice and certainly didn't realize that they were talking about free upgrades. I am not stupid enough to not appreciate the value of free upgrades and would happily accept them http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. I am only five feet tall and so I can tolerate coach better than others. But as someone who would be considered a non-frequent flyer by FT standards, I look forward to the service as well as the seat when I spend my miles for FC and only in my opinion, do I think there is a wide gap between AA and HP.
