America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Award flight on NW-CO codeshare using HP miles?

I plan to redeem some miles for a couple of FC seats from SFO to CUN this year. My first choice would be a SFO-IAH-CUN-IAH-SFO routing all on CO metal.

As long as there is a NW codeshare on all segments this should be possiible using HP miles. Am I right?

HP - Platinum/970k miles
BA - Dirt/Soon to be Gold
NW - Dirt/Soon to be Plat
UA - Dirt/19k miles
AA - Dirt/Only using to get BA Tier points/miles.

You are wrong. The flight must be Northwest operated. Continental operated flights are not eligible for FlightFund award travel.

I have 40,822 Miles on America West their award chart says I can redeem them for NW travel

I have 322,326 on Continental and building

Both web sites indicate the miles can be used on Northwest

Suppose I ould locate an award at 60,000 miles can I use up the remaining balance in my America account and compete the transaction with 19178 Continental miles ?

You could get creative and use Starwood Preferred Guest's program to transfer/consolidate miles, but you'll take a hit. http://www.starwood.com/preferredguest/starpoints/transfer_ff_checkRoc.html

Of course, since you can't transfer miles INTO Starwood . . . .

Whoops! I was under the misconception that it was two-way. My apologies....

I was told the best strategy would be to book one on NW Metal and the additional seat on NW Metal with CO

Although I can't get out of the US - We have finaaly found an exist strategy for orphan miles

With a family of five 40,000 miles are orphans
