America West FlightFund (Pre-2005 US Airways merger) - Pre Flight Video Trivia

Next time you fly on awest, watch carefully the pre flight video. When the oxygen masks fall down, watch the gentleman in the window seat in the second row. He pulls the mask down and loose from the ceiling and clearly mouths something to the effect of "what do I do, its not working."

I always thought those videos were dumb. C'mon, show what it would really be like "in the event of an emergency".
Who is going to calmly put the butter-cup on their face when the cabin is decompressing and the plane racing straight for the ground at 500mph?
They should show people screaming and holding on for dear life and generally panicking. Maybe they could even light the "Go Ahead and Panic" sign up like in airplane!
Of course, I guess that may make some people uneasy. Not me though - I'm the guy always waving my hands and yelling "wooo!" on final approach into PHX during monsoon season!
Good to know though - I'll avoid the 2nd row window from now on http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Try the PHX-SOW (Show Low) flight on Arizona Express (http://www.flyshowlow.com) sometime. If you love the monsoon flight into PHX, you'll really love this one.
(Edited because I need to learn to type URLs better!)

Hi all,
I'll certainly be watching the video more attentively on my next flight!
I've always thought that the evacuation slide looked like fun. On most (non-airline) slides, you sit on them, then slowly gain speed. On the airline slides, you actually get to jump onto them. Cool!
I bet an airplane evacuation slide would be a huge hit on the playground.

Actually they'd be illegal. Too fast and no lip at the bottom to stop the descent. Kids would get hurt....believe me I've done it on a 747.

Yah, the blonde (FA I think?) who is kneeling, smiling and chatting when the masks drop never loses her smile. Her look is like, "Oh good! Here's the mask, finally!"
OTH, about the guy mouthing the question... THAT is funny. I will look for it on Sunday.
(9am:SFO-PHX-EWR hopefully standing-by 7am:SFO-CMH-EWR!)
I always thought they used airline employees as actors. Was this guy acting or just a nincompoop?

Probably just middle management.

Wait a sec, LLZ, you've had to evacuate a 747? What was that like? What were the circumstances?
On a flight from PHX to BWI last year, we had to return to PHX with a mechanical problem. One of the FA's screwed up and had us assume the crash position until she was called off by another FA. Talk about messing with my head.

Ok.. I saw the video from 1D.. very funny and my seatmate was laffing, too. Actuall it looks like the cords were tangled up... maybe from a shoot and reshoot production problem.
I second that to LLZ. What happened? Would love to hear 'bout it. The biggest scare I have had was a CO flight (can't remember the plane) at SFO was taking too long to lift off the ground. I really was thinking, "OK, we should be in the air by now". Suddenly the engines, reversed, brakes came on and we stopped as suddenly as I ever have. Another plane had pulled onto runway in front of us! YIKES!

The HP flights into PRC (Prescott) are just as exciting...a TRUE e-tkt ride!
