I have been to NYC a few times as a tourist, this weekend I am coming as a Football Fan and a Beer Drinker! Sunday we are going to the Jets/Fish game, tailgating pregame. I am looking for some suggestions for 4 buddys to enjoy good beer, and good company for Friday night/Saturday. I have been to the Heartland brew place in Union Square before, and it was pretty good. Our hotel is off of 32nd and Broadway. Any Suggestions?

I love the Heartland---that's where I go, but then again, I love those bartenders!

One of the oldest and most famous is Mc Sorleys. Was the first bar I was ever in New York. Will be back there this weekend with European friends who will experience it for the first time.

Besides the food and beer at Heartland, both of which I totally enjoy, you get airline miles if you have an Idine account.

Can't beat that.

How could I forget that? Thanks.

McSorley's is a good choice if you're in the city early, but they get really crowded by around 8. They usually have a line outside and you'll have to wait for someone to leave before you can get in. They serve beer in small glasses and you have to order by the bundle, in multiples of 8. If you're not drinking, they'll ask you to go. Gruff service, but Abraham Lincoln supposedly drank there so it's a classic.

If you want a lot of beers, the Peculiar Pub down on Bleecker St has a ridiculous number of beers in bottles, something like 400+ kinds. They have a list you can look through. It's right near NYU, and there are several other bars along Bleecker so you can easily hop from one to another.

Good luck!

Obvious answer. The Ginger Man (http://www.gingermanpub.com/ny/ny-frame.html) on 36th between 5th and Madison has, like, a billion beers.

Atmosphere kinda sucks, but has lots of beer. Peculier Pub (isn't that how they spell it?) also has a pretty crappy vibe, I think - too much a college dive bar.

I'd just head into any Irish bar. Pick one that looks old outside. Make sure it's not fancy inside either. As you enter, make sure the bartender is at least 60 and wearing a white shirt.

This way you'll get a real taste(pardon the pun) of New York City.

Jeremy is 100% correct. Gingerman is the finest beer bar in the city (and Chelsea brewing company is the worst)

However, if you are in to Belgiums, than I recommend dba (http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11350344/)
