America West FlightFund (Pre-2005 US Airways merger) - Any Experience Booking Inter-Island Travel with HP Miles?

I need to get two roundtrip tickets between KOA and HNL for a trip in September. Rather than burn my NW miles I figured I'd use the HP miles I'll be earning on my $20 BA adventure. Any experience redeeming inter-island travel thru HP? do I call HP just like I would if I was going through NW? Are they pretty good on availability? Any help would be appreciated.

Don't think you'll be able to, unless the inter-island flights are in conjunction with a mainland-originating HP award ticket. At least that's how I read this footnote from the mileage award chart on the AWA web site:

"Inter-Island mileage rate segment based Inter-Island redemption requires originating Award Travel in North America"
