I had to change a Phx-LAX reservation recently and got hit with a $100 change fee. I thought HP waived this a few years ago in order to better compete with SWA on this route. I got a semi-explanation from the agent that change fee was waived only on "non-restricted" fares. My original fare was aroun $155 which is competitive but not great for the lane.
Anybody know any more about this policy?

Hi dkp,
A confirmed change has resulted in a change fee for quite a while (several years, at least).
What HP still allows is same-day standby without a fee. I probably standby for 40% to 50% of my flights. I wouldn't be able to do this with most other airlines. So, I now choose to fly HP most of the time.

The airlines have had to find new "revenue streams" since most are losing money.
This is another of the clever moves the beancounters (accountants) have instituted recently (August-September 2002)
Be creful about making changes, it'll cost you unless you buy a full Y ticket.
Good Luck!
