America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - What happens if you don't qualify as elite?

If someone is Gold and does not fly at all for a whole year, does he get dropped to Silver or down to a regular member?

What do you expect?

A long long time ago I obtained America West's old elite level that was just called "chairmans club" for several years in a row and I remember I just missed making it one year. I wrote a letter and explained my history and the reason I did not make it (new baby) and I was granted an addtional year of chairmans club. Please note this was quite some time ago. The same thing happend with United but I did not have to write a letter because that had an emeritus level if you just missed making the grade.
