View Full Version : 24-Hour Cancellation Policy?

Found a great last-minute fare on AmericaWest.com... It's an Internet-only fare and there's no option to hold it. Is it possible to purchase it, then cancel (should I choose to do so) within 24 hours w/o penalty? Reading the Consumers First policy doesn't answer the question...

I've not heard of such an option when purchasing an America West ticket. I'd suggest calling them to find out.

Thanks, TransWorldOne.

* in case somebody else may have the same question:
I called and they said Internet purchases were instant purchase only and were nonrefundable once the ticket was purchased.

I have found only United to do such a thing, but I can't say they still do that today. UAL stated that if you purchased any ticket within 24 hours that you could have it refunded back without penalty (applies to all published fares). I haven't heard of any other airline doing this service, including HP.

Northwest Airlines will allow you to cancel a reservation made at nwa.com within 24 hours.

From America West's Customer Service Plan (http://www.americawest.com/aboutawa/customerfirst/aa_initiatives.htm)
Each airline will allow the customer either to hold a telephone reservation without payment for 24 hours or (at the election of the carrier) to cancel a reservation without penalty for up to 24 hours, in order to give customers an opportunity to check for lower fares through other distribution systems, such as travel agents or the Internet.

America West will hold a customer's reservation without payment or penalty for a minimum period of 24 hours.

Snake,

To clarify: that applies to reservations made over the telephone only, not AmericaWest.com. I called them; it took nearly 45 minutes to confirm but they did.

(It was important to me b/c HP's fare was $580, wheras the other carriers were $1200+ each... problem was I wasn't sure if I could get the time off, which I couldn't in the end.)

Northwest is the only US carrier that I know which has the 24 hours ticket cancellation policy applied to both internet, telephone and walkup ticketing.

If you change your mind, get a better fare, or whatever you can cancel by midnight CT the next day.

Good luck!
