I'm sorry, Ive been through this section and am completely lost as for chosing a hôtel; Travelling to Vegas for the 1st time end of august (31st, not a good date for rates).

Idealy I would like a good view over the strip and a good 4/5* hotel. I've seen promotions at the Venetian but is it realy any good ? The Belagio's looks great but is too expensive for me.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

Have you looked at any deals from Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, or even the airline sites? Sometimes very good packages show up. Venetian is fine, as is Paris, MGM, NYNY, Mandalay Bay and many others.

The Luxor is a good hotel and probably has some decent rates. Others to look at would be NYNY, MGM Grand (probably expensive), Aladdin, Mandalay Bay (will be expensive), and Paris.

If you want a better price and still a strip view, try Bally's and the Excalibur. They're 3 * I think though.

Sign up at the hotels websites and they'll send you their promotional prices.

The Excalibur has August 31 as $90, and Sept 1-4 at $49.95 per night. You could try the $20 trick for a strip view upgrade or just request a room with a strip view. You get a bunch of other stuff with it as well.

You can try this site. All prices are inclusive of taxes. You pay in advance and get a voucher e-mailed to you to give the hotel. We used them for a stay in Amsterdam. Sometimes their prices are better than anywhere else, sometimes not. I personally would not stay at the Stardust or Treasure Island. All the other 4 and 5 star hotels they have on the strip look ok. If you use this link I will get a referal. If you don't want me to get a referal just leave off the last bit, no problem. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

The Venetian is well worth it if you can get a discount. Based on my experience, I would also recommend the Mandalay, Mirage, Bellagio, Hard Rock and Palms.

Stay away from the Imperial Palace and avoid the Tropicana at all costs.

For info on all hotels, go to www.cheapovegas.com (http://www.cheapovegas.com)

Sorry, I guess I am confused (which haappens easily these days). I am not sure what "an affiliated program reference" is. I said the link would give me a referal but that the last bit could be left off. I was up front and honest about it. Is this acceptable or do I need to edit out the referal bit.

If the "referal" is part of a program that would pay you some type of fee, bonus or commission in the event of a sale (or even if no sale is made), this is considered advertising and is not allowed on FT. I edited the underlying link to remove the referal reference.

Sorry. I sincerely didn't realize that this was prohibited. With all the I can refer you for silver/gold/superduperplus and I'll get an extra 500 miles/points/bottlecaps posting that go on I did not know that it was against the rules. It won't happen again.

Try going through www.travelzoo.com (http://www.travelzoo.com) for the Venetian.

I wouldn't go near the Excalibur. Go to the hotels website and sign up for their E-Mail list. You'll get some good offers.

Thanks for the info and will do. I didn't know there was a way of chopping it down per se.

The Venetian is great and you can find a good deal with priceline. Don't forget to check out www.biddingfortravel.com (http://www.biddingfortravel.com) for latest info.

I would recommend the Mirage. It’s a 4* hotel with a nice casino, good restaurants, one of the best pools in Vegas, and it’s in a nice area - the central Strip. I will be returning there next week and managed a great rate.

Next, I would suggest Four Seasons (great strip views but can be very pricey), Mandalay Bay, and Luxor in that order.

Make sure you check the web sites of the strip hotels; many say they will not offer cheaper prices elsewhere.

Venetian often has rooms in the 99-119/night range during the week. To get these kinds of rates, call the hotel directly and ask for their best rate. Then ask if they have anything better. Their best rates are non-changeable/cancelable, but a true bargain in the city. Be forewarned, while the rooms are fantastic, large, well appointed, each room with a regular bed (or two queen size beds) and a sofa bed, a majority of the rooms simply do not have a good view.

Bellagio is also remarkable, but unless you are going summer, midweek, you will most likely not get a bargain, the Bellagio has more "price integrity" (if there is such a word in Las Vegas...)

You may want to consider Ceasars Palace, Palace Tower rooms...they are also very luxurious and often much more reasonably priced than the Venetian or Bellagio.

Good Luck...

I just returned from Vegas this past Monday. Stayed at Mandalay Bay for the first time. Very nice hotel. It's not Bellagio or Four Seasons, but it is certainly not Circus Circus either. My suggestion to you would be to list what you are really looking for in your choice of hotel. I know you mentioned strip view and price, but other than those criterion, are you soley inquiring about the room ammenities themselves? or do you want to stay at a place with a great pool? or a hotel with a young crowd? or a hotel with endless dining options? Are high limit tables in the casino important to you? Having been to Vegas many times, ALL of these things are variables that would factor in a hotel choice...at least for me. I am sure that veteran posters on this board would agree. The more info you provide, the better suggestions we can give. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif
