My friend and I are spending the weekend in Las Vegas on July 18-20. A $49/night room at the Golden Palm Hotel Casino piqued my interest, but I have never heard of this place and can't find any reliable info on the internet. Could anybody give me the lowdown, as to room quality, distance from the strip, etc.?

Much appreciated.

It used to be a Howard Johnson.I never stayed there and I don't know if they remodeled anything. It's on the corner of Tropicana and Industrial right next to I-15. Across the street you have In N Out Burger and Wild Wild West a very small locals hotel/casino.If you walk across the I-15 bridge you are at the parking lot of Exaclibur or NYNY.It's not a long walk.

Not a great or very safe location. In terms of the walk, traffic can get pretty crazy around those bridges over the highway.

I suggest looking further, at www.travelworm.com (http://www.travelworm.com) . Then, bring up www.cheapovegas.com (http://www.cheapovegas.com) , check the reviews & find the places on the map.

An alternative is to stay in the Downtown Fremont area... it's a nice street with many casinos. The games there are better too, like 10x odds on craps.

For those weekend dates, the room rate is $65 per night at Four Queen's. Check it out at www.travelnow.com (http://www.travelnow.com) if interested.

Agreed, there are much better alternatives.

In addition to the other resources given, check www.travelaxe.com (http://www.travelaxe.com)

For someone without a car,the Golden Palms is in a much better location than Downtown.

Consider the Tuscany, $69/night on Expedia. It's a brand-new hotel a half-mile or so from the center of the Strip.
