Search the forum - seems like the cab fare from LAS to the Strip (we're staying in TI) is about $15 (or was when the poster posted). Does anyone know if this is still accurate?
I'm trying to decide to rent a car for the week we're there or not. We're planning on taking some trips out into the desert for a few days, so I am weighing just renting for those days or renting for the whole week.
Do the casinos (and if anyone knows about TI specifically, that would be great) charge for parking?
Thanks,
Mike

Most hotels offer free parking. Also, several of 'em have car rental on site, so you can reserve your car and pick it up after you've walked the strip for several days. Once we rented @ airport then left @ Flamingo as flight out was very early in morning. Drop off fee only $5.00

Cars are dirt cheap at the weekly rate. Check Orbitz and also try your AAA code on www.hertz.com. (http://www.hertz.com.) Parking is free. The TI has a very easy garage.
Have a great time!

I'm not aware of any Las Vegas casino that charges for parking. All of the major properties have garage self parking and also offer "free" valet service. With valet service, it is customary to tip the person who brings your car to you when you leave the hotel ($1-2, depending on who you talk to). Since some self paking facilities can be a bit of a walk from the casino, valet can be worth the few dollars involved.

Downtown casinos charge for parking if not staying at that hotel...I know that the Golden Nugget does for sure. They have either 3 or 4 hours free parking for non-guests if you validate your ticket in the casino..hotel guests park free..
Main Street Station has a strange parking setup..You had to pay but if you stopped at a booth in the casino with your parking ticket they refunded part or all of the parkng charge (think you had to pay when entering the lot)..
Never seen a parking charge at a strip hotel, but DOWNTOWN does charge for non-guests..

BTW, the Nevada Taxicab Authority sent me a fax recently with estimated fares from the airport to most of the major hotels in Las Vegas.
For the TI, the estimate $11.10 off peak, plus up to .90 for peak time. There is also a $1.20 airport tax.
FYI

Just came back from my 5th vegas trip in the last 2 years, always rented a car from enterprise, you simply can't go wrong, my full size car rental was $22.47 per day!!!
They originally gave me a Buick Regal but they also offered an upgraded to a Volvo S60 for only $10 more per day which I took it.
So my total was $42.27 per day.
$22.47 full size plus $10 upgrade plus $10 underage fee http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/frown.gif

OMG! Lets not discuss tipping, AGAIN!!!
I think it cost me about $10 (pre-tip) for a cab from LAS to Casino Royale when I was there in May.

I go to Vegas fairly often. Since I find rent-a-cars in Vegas inexpensive, and cabs expensive, my rule of thumb is 2 cabs rides in 1 day = the price of a rent-a-car for 1 day. To me, the only possible benfits to cabs are: 1) when traffic on the strip is awful (virtually every weekend night), at least you don't have to sit behind the wheel yourself in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and 2) cab drivers frequently know short-cuts that I still don't. Nonetheless, I still always make sure I rent a car in Vegas when I fly (moot point when I drive there from L.A. - about 50% of the time).
I truly believe if expense is a primary concern, rent-a-cars are much more cost effective.

LV Cabs will be raising fares AGAIN. LV will soon have the 4th highest rates in the US.
Rent a car.

That would be a very interesting thread here for us drivers. I always rent a car....so much easier to get to SamsTown and the Stations.

if you plan on getting drunk (which i always do when i'm in vegas), the rental car may not be the best of ideas at 2am and you're at the palms and wanting to get back to the strip.

I always drive to my destination, and if I get too out of control will either walk back to my hotel, or cab it back. I just pick the car up in the morning...well afternoon when I get out of bed.

Although LV car rentals are cheap, I have only rented a car once and the other 50 times I have used taxis.
First, the drinking (hockeystl: good post for people who do rent cars).
Second, the convenience of door-to-door service. Instead of a long walk to the parked car or the wait for the valet (although taxi wait can be long as well).
Third, I find the taxi drivers to be a good supplement to hotel concierges to let you know what's going on in town - however, sometimes they will give you coupons that are self-serving (they get kick backs on coupons they give you).
Fourth, I like to walk the strip (as opposed to walking from the lobby to the parking garage). I like to bounce around - a lot of short walks. If I need to go a longer distance, I just need to hop in a cab instead of going back to the hotel to pick up the car. On rare occassions, I've also hopped on the bus for $2. I've also used free shuttles (such as RIO/Harrahs) or trams.
Taxis fit me for Vegas, but it may not be the best option for all. For a four day stay, my friends and I spend a total of about $80 on taxis (must add an additional $80 if we golf - as this is a long ride).
Anybody have any advice on the taxi/car-rental convenience factor during big conventions (like Comdex). I know taxis (and shuttle buses) have long lines (30 to 75 minutes). Is it easy to park at the convention center? Or is it trading one inconvenience for another?

killerbrew offers some very valid reasons to rent cabs. If you are traveling with a group of friends and you can split most fares a few ways, cabs fares suddenly become much more reasonably priced.
When I go to LV, it's just me and the wife. So I'd end up footing the full fare each trip. This is why we rent a car.
Once you learn the parking garages to use/avoid, you can cut way down on the time walking to/from your car.
