Around 7/6. Been many times but never had this as the main consideration.
Mrs Alien needs a good pool to lounge around.
We find Treasure Island is a packed zoo.
Belagio is perfect but the room prices are more than double TI.
Any suggestions?

Have you considered the Flamingo? The rooms aren't as nice as the TI, but the rates are good and the pool usually gets pretty favorable reviews!

I'll 2nd UA's comment. For mid-level price and first class pool, you will not beat the Flamingo. Check their website for room rates, or download travelaxe.
The Flamingo also has it's excellent location going for it.
Another low price option is the Tropicana. It has a nice pool, but it's certainly showing it's age in the rooms and the casino. I would avoid.

I would recommend Luxor or Monte Carlo. Both have excellent pools - not as good as Flamingo, although still high up there - and their rooms are generally better. They often have good Internet specials. The Flamingo pool also can get a lot more crowded than the other two.

Yes, I know. Luxor and Monte Carlo have several pools as well, as do others. By pool I meant the entire pool complex.

Almost impossible to find hotel pools that are not packed at that time of year.
MGM has large and generally well rated pool complex.

I'll be honest, we were usually up so late that we over slept the pool times. We stayed at MGM Grand specifically for the pools, but since we didn't get down there until the afternoon, most of the pools (except the main one) were closed.
The cabana's at Bellagio were very nice with televisions, water sprays, and lots of people out. The pools are "regular" (if that makes sense) - no wave pool, no rafts, no slides, just pools. But it felt very luxurious. I can't remember what the cabana charge was for the day though.
The Venetian pool is under refurbishment right now. But I wouldn't bother with the Venetian if I were you. The place is over rated.
The other place that always gets high marks (but I have never been there) is Mandalay Bay. Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand are always recommended as two of the top pools in Vegas.
Sorry I can't be more help, like I said we always slept too late.

What about Wynn - is the pool any good?
lvnvflyer
Feb 1, 06, 6:00 pm
The Wynn pool is very nice indeed; lots of cabanas, very elaborate ones, as I recall. The pool area consists of several interconnected pools with somewhat formal gardens and the cabanas around them. There is no beach pool or the other stuff that they have at MBay; however, there is a "european" adults only pool, at which topless bathing is permitted. In that same area is a small outdoor casino, with table games, etc. (there is also in pool gaming at the HRock.) However, I think the crowd is probably older than at the HR or the MB.....

Just talked with Hard Rock, pool opening March 1st. But, they have a rule that cabanas can only be rented 7 days prior to rental date. Any way to get around this and have a cabana rented for much earlier? Just worried about getting one.

What about Wynn - is the pool any good?
I agree with lvnvflyer - Wynn has a very nice pool area, but it is on the mellower scale of things. Several other points:
-the European-style bathing area also has no kids, so it's quiet
-all the chairs have foam cushions, and attendants will help you find a chair (a big plus when it's crowded; finding a chair at Mandalay can be a big hassle)
-because of the curve of the hotel there is almost always a shady area at the pool - at times most of the pool area.

We rented a cabana for the kids at the MGM Grand, I think they run $100-150 a day. They come with 2 free inner tube rentals (normally $15) and a selection of snacks and soft drinks, as well as a personal attendant, towels, lounge chairs, and a remote control TV. The MGM features several pools, notably a more-or-less circular flume pool that is 6 feet wide x 4 feet deep x several hundred yards in circumference, it has flowing water (you can sit on your inner tube and be propelled around in a circle past several waterfalls). Kids loved it. We loved it. Cabanas and flume pool close at 6P, get there early! Other pools close at 8P (at least during nonwinter months).

I was just here last week and can confirm that this area is alive and kicking. While it wasn't packed, there were several people taking advantage of this opportunity.
Given your age range and assuming you can afford the Wynn, go with the Wynn. You won't be disappointed.

It's true that there are plans to build adjacent condos and more at the Hard Rock (http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2005/May-01-Sun-2005/news/26419187.html), but I don't know of any plans for the hotel to close. You can still book rooms during all of 2006. Since there are plans to build an amphitheater pool space, it may be accurate that there will be disruptions at the current pool. (I don't know if this new amphitheater is directly related to the existing pools.) But if that's so, I doubt there would be a disruption during summer 2006.

When are you going? What's your budget? Cabana rentals are tough to get, since there are only a small number to begin with at each hotel. In addition, casino marketing usuaully gets first pick, leaving they rest available on a first come, first serve basis. Unless you are a "player", getting one on the weekend will be almost impossible.

vendsit
May 14, 08, 3:27 pm
I have to second the post about the Monte Carlo pool. My wife and I just got back this afternoon from a three night stay. The construction is attached to the hotel and is literally within reach from the pool deck. To make matters worse, they are building a parking garage that blocks the sun to half of the pool area after 2 to 3 in the afternoon this time of year. Also, there is dust and construction debris floating in all of the pool. We were in the wave pool and there is a layer of styrofome shavings floating in the whole thing.
Don't stay in this hotel if you want to enjoy the pool and don't let them put you in a pool room view. They are working on this project 24 hours a days and start the heavy banging and iron work at 5:30am.

I have never been to Las Vegas but would like to go in early Oct. I know Las Vegas sounds crazy but we need a bit of a mileage gathering session to get into the next level and from NY it fits the bill. Main thing is a fun pool (okay- a great room is also desired). Went to Wynn for the first time in May. Was pleasantly surprised with the pool. It's shaped like a barbell and has very manicured bushes and trees rather than your typical tropical look. The naked pool is a large olympic size rectangular pool with large lounge beds in the water. Finally, if you are on the Tower level you also have access to two oval pools. Overall, I liked it more than I thought I would.
