Here's a link to the article from the Las Vegas Review Journal. http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2003/Apr-22-Tue-2003/business/21158735.html Says the show will close the first week of July and then re-open in its new form in late October.
I've seen the Pirate Battle a few times and I will miss it. I'll have one more chance to see it when I go back in June. I don't know why they are messing with something that has been so successful for them. Guess they want to get rid of the family atmosphere. I'm young and single but I still like it there.

The hotels in LV decided some time back that the "family fiendly" image was going away and that they were losing customers to the adult entertainment establishments. In fact, arecent survey from the Las Vegas Tourist Authority showed only 10% of recent Las Vegas visitors brought children under the age of 14.
As a result, MGM-Mirage Resorts took the bold step of commiting significant funds to projects that are much more "adult" oriented. Witness La Femme and Tabu at MGM, The coming Cirque show "Zumanity" at NYNY and the new free outside show coming to the "TI". I would expect to see more of this from MGM-Mirage and its comptetitors in the future.

and long may it continue...
Vegas has never been, and never should be, a place for kids.
LV is Disneyland for adults, and I for one will be cheering on the Sirens on my next visit!

I agree with Raddy. I really don't think the kids tell their parents that they want to go to Vegas... the parents take them to Vegas. Vegas is a good city for adults and the entertainment is definitely for adults. I am sure the kids would rather go to Disney World or Disneyland.

Until they close the Star Trek Experience, the Rainforest Cafe and Caesar's Magical Empire, my kids will always enjoy a visit to Vegas. I don't take them very often, but there are plenty of non-adult attractions. YMMV. The Pirate Battle will be missed however - a Vegas classic.

Caesars Magical Empire is gone and Star Trek: the Experience is in jeopardy but I haven't heard any bad news about Rainforest Cafe yet. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif
