Taking a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix to Las Vegas and getting off at the Pheonix stop.
The flight to Vegas prices at $59 one-way but it prices at >$200 if i book to Phoenix. I only want to go one-way (will drive back).
If I do do this is it better to NOT use a FF card?

Don't use your FF card and don't check your luggage.

Not a big deal. Just don't check any baggage. Mileage accrual won't be a problem.

I don't know how diligent HP is with their Revenue Protection People, but you may want to pay with a check instead of a credit card. Also, don't purchase this ticket through a travel agent, who may likley receive a "chargeback" and come looking for you. Just my 2c, but I may be paranoid... In all honesty though, I don't think this will be a big deal.

Did you try booking SFO-LAS-PHX? You can do that, then stand by for the direct flight the same day. Flights thru LAS seem to be much cheaper than direct flights for some reason.
Of course, you'll earn 1000 FF miles if you do go thru Vegas.
I would not worry about getting off in PHX though. I've burned extra segments on occasion and actually used the credit months later with no problem.
