You can redeem for a one-way upgrade ...

I would just transfer them over to Hilton for 20k points (1:2) or redeem for magazines.

America West does not participate in Hilton HHonors Reward Exchange (http://www.hilton.com/en/hhonors/rewards/exchange_1.jhtml).

That's right, although they did participate in the past (until about 5-6 years ago).

Any backdoor methods to Hilton? Man, these AW miles are useless....

You could do a points.com exchange or a milepoint.com redemption.

Points.com - 10,000=418 Real Airline Points
Milepoint.com = Discounts on inflated prices - Magazines can be purchased at face value subscription rates for miles only

Flight Fund is a dead end program

Well - you could give them to "miles for kids", they would not be worthless to them

How is FlightFund any different from the rest? In many aspects, FlightFund is superior to other airlines' FFPs.

Motnot: people are mad because for some odd reason FlightFund(along with A+ and Rapid Rewards) actually requires you to use the miles with the airline! Can you believe it? the nerve! You should be able to switch the miles between all airline and hotel programs interchangably to show loyalty! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

If he is not Flying HP - There is absolutely nothing he can do to get the miles out of the program (dead end. Some of the major carriers do allow transfer options to Hilton - which is the ultimate clearing house (you can go the other way [Hilton to miles] but the exchange rate doesn't make economic sense)

Through the Hilton mutual account I was able to rescue orphan miles on United, Delta and my wife's Delta account to usable program.(One which I was continually using and earning enough points to redeem) I did go the Hotel to points route with Marriott to convert 10,000 (useless) Marriott points to 2000 airmiles.

My travel plans have changed considerably for the last quarter of 2003 LAX/ONT to PHX,IAH,TPA,MCO - ALl of which can be done through HP. I am Faux Platinum (comped)on HP, do not need any more status miles on CO for this year (Earned Plat through 2/2004) I am considering switching to HP for the balance of the year to earn at least Gold for the period 3/2003 - 2/2004.

My delima is that I have no exit strategy for those miles.

Why do you need an exit strategy?

You can redeem the miles on HP, NW, or BA.

I hear BA is nice up front. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Actually, with CO changing OnePass, your only exit strategy may be how to leave CO. And HP seems like a great choice for you!

If Continental follows US or Delta on cheap fares - They will be flying empty planes

10,000 miles is enough for a one-way domestic. Although they don't advertise it, they honored it as recently as two years ago. Has anyone else experienced this with AW?

The 10K one way value award is no longer available ... you have to use an entire block of 20K for a roundtrip ticket. You can add to your account - book a SNA/LAX-LAS and add 4K to your stash for $38

Assuming it's R/T it would be 3*500*2=3000 + 3000 for an internet booking or 6000 total.

Two of these mileage runs would give you enough for a R/T ticket 10000 + 12,000

That is an exit strategy -

The fare is applicable non-stop only. So you'd have to go SNA-LAS or LAX-LAS I think that gives you 1,000 total flight miles and a single 3,000 on-line booking bonus for the reservation - I hope I'm wrong though =)
