Travel Technology - Has anyone tried the mini air purifiers?

I keep seeing them in SkyMall, Sharper Image. etc. They're meant to be worn around the neck and supposedly shoot purified air up to your face. Any experiences w/these in terms of effectiveness, hassles at security, etc.?

my wife uses one due to severe allergies (dust, cat dander) and it works pretty good
- zero hassles to date with security
- she uses sharper image model
- always takes out one battery when not in use as accidentally switched on in bag one time and ran down the batteries
- also took an old sock to run the strap that goes around her neck for comfort on long hauls

I use one also and I do believe it helps. I don't wear it through security and I take it off if there is a second check while changing planes, although I've not had any problems, this is just my precaution. I agree that it is easy to have it turn on by accident and run out the battery; that's happened a few times to me. Mine is a Mini-Mate Ionic Air Supply, takes a 3V battery which is supposed to last 30 hours.

Thanks for your responses--I got one and used it for the first time this weekend on a jam-packed red-eye. My seat mate was hacking and popping cough drops the entire time...I credit the air purifer (as well as the coat over my head) for keeping me out of the doctor's office today! (-:
