And here I'm complaining about paying $300 for the Bose.

AudioTechnica creates special limited editions of their headphones that sell like hotcakes (even at that price) in Japan. I have a set of the ATH-W2002 (http://www.audio-technica.com.sg/ath-w2002.html) and think they sound amazing. Mind you these are incredibly high-end headphones that produce sound (with the right source equipment) that can rival audio systems costing upwards of $30,000. So for the audio purist, these are nirvana on the cheap indeed!
[Edited to note that I have a set of the Bose QC1s, as well as the Etymotic ER4P and several other headphones... these are the best I've ever heard bar none. My source on the road is a Sony D-777 Discman with Headroom Total Airhead and a Sony DVP-9000ES SACD player + Creek OBH-11SE for home. Not the pinnacle but not bad either.

Well, Im learning something totally new. Havent been much of an audiophile. How do the Bose sound with the Total Headroom. Does the amp improve the sound? I would be using an MP3 player rather than a CD player. Your thoughts? Thanks.

The total airhead wouldn't help the Bose (or any other active N/C phone) at all as they have their own amplifier that does the noise cancelling as well. If you used them in passive mode it MIGHT help. The way it's designed to be used is plugged into the line-out jack of the portable of your choice (if it has one) Thus you bypass the awful amplification in most portable devices and use the superior amp in the Airhead (which has a volume control). With the Etymotics I can hear the difference even on an airplane but with other 'phones it doesn't seem to matter as much in the air (too much noise). It's a true joy listening to music you love and hearing amazing detail, depth, and spaciousness at FL390.
