I assume one of those prepaid calling cards would be the best way of calling the continental US from Puerto Rico during a trip there. Is that the case? I assume one would purchase such a card in Puerto Rico...

I have a nationwide plan & apparently PR counts. MisterNice Dec 31, 03, 11:54 am My MCI card (675 min for 20 dolla) bought at Costco worked flawlessly. Best to buy cards in the 50 states. MisterNice NickP 1K Dec 31, 03, 1:10 pm As pdhenry points out via a cell phone, most major networks national plans include the USVI and Puerto Rico. Craig6z Dec 31, 03, 6:52 pm MisterNice. I wuz robbed! My older Costco/MCI card only had 575 minutes on it for $20. Recharges have been also based on the 575 rate (last time I recharged it was October 1st). How old is your 675 card? How old is your 675 card? Yep the 525 min ones were nice but the 675 min ones are nicer. I think I first saw them in the Kahului Costco about 3-4 months ago but (naturally) forgot to buy it. A friend bought one for me as an early Christmas present demanding I call her more often. When I activated it 2 weeks ago the MCI voice sez "your minutes have no expiration date". Interesting. My experience is NEVER recharge one as it has been ALWAYS cheaper to buy a new one (or even cheaper when someone buys one for you). MisterNice xyzzy Jan 2, 04, 3:59 pm Thanks for the info! Looks like a phone card is the way to go for me as T-Mobile doesn't include PR in my nationwide service: Roaming in Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands is 49¢ per minute. You should still be able to use most US toll free numbers for conf call services, etc from a landline. pdhenry Jan 4, 04, 7:14 pm Originally posted by xyzzy: Looks like a phone card is the way to go for me as T-Mobile doesn't include PR in my nationwide service:Give it a try anyway - I have a T-Mo nationwide plan, and I went back & checked my bill - the calls from the PR went under my nationwide "anytime" bucket. But on the other hand, getting a useable signal varied from day to day at the same location. Possible had something to do with roaming on AT&T. Did you see 2 networks or one on the browse (I swear that Cingular had there own network in PR, but it may only be GSM850) pdhenry Jan 5, 04, 2:24 pm Originally posted by NickP 1K: Did you see 2 networks or one on the browse Not sure I understand your question, but the phone indicated "AT&T" as the carrier (when I could get a carrier), and the bill didn't distinguish the San Juan calls any differently from the other calls that month.
